Sets new pole vault mark

INDIANAPOLIS ( U P I ) — Indiana high school track elite, blessed with relatively good weather, rewrote 6 of 14 season “bests” in the last week and for the second time in a row a pole vaulter led the assault. Little Tom Paoletto of Huntington carved out a brand-new state record when he cleared 14 feet 7 inches in the Huntington Relays last Saturday, wiping out the week-old mark of 14 feet 6 1/4 inches by East Noble’s Gary Thrapp. Season records in the 440,

mile, low hurdles, long jump and mile relay also went by the boards and the record-busting was expected to continue this weekend amid near-ideal weather conditions. Ron Terry released the following tournaments for the coming golf season at Windy Hill for the Men’s Golf Association. May 5-Bankers Handicap-Low gross ' May 12-Pro Am (Point System) May 26-To be announced June 9-Two Man Best Ball June 23-36 hole individual medal and handicap championship (1st 18 holes) June 30-36 hole individual medal and handicap championship (2nd 18 holes) July 14-Pro Am July 28-To be announced August 4-Pro Am (Total team score) August 18 - Blind partnerHandicap. Tournament Fees are $10 for all the tournaments or $2 per tournament. The golf association is looking for a large turnout this season for all these tournaments. If you haven’t played in one of them before, be sure and sign up in our newly operated Pro shop. Keith Lyons is now in charge of the pro shop and has added quite a bit of new equipment to the lines we had last year. Rental Clubs are available along with several new golf carts which have been added this year. This Saturday will start the seasons mixed two ball events. These tournaments are fun to participate in regardless whether you have played golf before or not. So don’t be afraid to sign up in the pro shop before Saturday. We would like to have 100% turnout for these events. If you need a cart, be sure and make reservations with Mr. Lyons before Saturday. In addition to the above schedule the following mixed two ball and special events tournaments are planned. Bowling banquet

The Tuesday Night Ladies Bowling league held its banquet Tuesday evening at Torr’s Restaurant. There were fifty six women bowlers in attendance. Varigated petunias were the table decorations for each bowler. Following the delicious dinner, the business meeting was opened with Marilyn Wood, president of the league presiding. Election of officers was held with the following officers being elected to serve this coming year. President, Sue Cash; Vice president, Shirley Langdon; Secretary, Mary Rader; Treasurer, Lucille Fultz; Sergeant-at-Arms, Mildred O’Neal. League trophies were presented to the winning team, Towne Beauty Salon, Connie Jackson, Pat Lambert, Carolyn Thomas, and Bev Nelson. Second place winners receiving trophies were Dale’s DX Service, Grace Cassell, Joann Bean, Doris Huber,

Marge Monnett. Torr’s Restaurant team received a cash prize for having the highest series for the year. Shirley Langdon received a pin for high single game. Each team received prize money according to the place in the final standing at the end of this season. The bowlers wish to thank the banquet committee for a very interesting and entertaining evening. The committee in charge of the banquet was, Joan Taylor, Sue Cash, and Waneta Brewster. Many prizes were given to the bowlers, which were donated by the local merchants and individuals.
