Bible Thought

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.—Revelation 1:8. God is the source of life, the present sustainer of life, and the One in whom the future finds fulfillment. Rosalie Allen club hostess The Thursday Club met April 4 with Mrs. Rosalie Allen. Thirteen members were present. After a very lovely dinner the meeting was called to order by the president, Vietta Larkin, with the members singing the club song in unison led by all repeating the “Lord’s Prayer”. Roll call was answered by the exchange of a small gift. The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting and they were approved. The treasurer and flower fund chairman gave their reports respectively. It was reported that a flower from the club was sent to Alma Grimes, one of our members who is sick. A get-well card was also sent to Alma. After the business meeting the club was turned over to the hostess and games were played. Belle McQueen won the lucky napkin prize. The next meeting will be with Gertrude Ziegelman May 2 with roll call being flower exchange. Meetings Thursday The afternoon session of the Presbyterian women will meet Thursday morning this month at 9:30 at 709 E. Walnut Street. The hostess is Mrs. Harvey Treible, and her assistant is Mrs. Jean Holley. Please note the change in time. The evening session of Presbyterian Women will meet at 8:00 p.m. with Mrs. Faye Cox. Her assistant hostess is Mrs. Marge Todd.

DEAR HELOISE: Many of my neighbors complain about picking up the threads and fine ravels off the floor when sewing, especially when patching. I have learned to sew in my kitchen and just sweep up all of those little meanies. Much easier than getting them off the carpet. Besides, the day I sew is when I do lots of cooking. I’m usually sitting right near the stove and it’s convenient to watch the food. And this way I don't burn anything! Sally Murcheson * * * Dear Sally: I think you’ve got a great idea, honey pie. But those who have cabinet sewing machines that cannot be moved to the kitchen, might like to try my method: I take a sheet from my laundry hamper and place it on the floor before I ever start sewing and cutting. Then all I have to do is take the sheet outdoors and shake all of those little threads off when finished! Then dump the sheet back in the hamper. A plastic shower curtain Is even better if you happen to have an old one around. If not, you can buy heavy pieces of plastic at practically any store now for less than 50 cents. You arc really not wasting your 50 cents because you’ll find you can use this for many, many things thereafter. Helolse * * * DEAR HELOISE: A facial sauna is very beneficial for dry skin or just to keep a fresh, young-looking skin. If you don’t have a sauna, try my way. Run hot water in your bathroom basin. Then with a large towel make a tent over your head, bend over the steaming water for a few minutes and you get nearly the same effect. I wear a shower cap to preserve my hairdo. Just Another Mother * * * DEAR HELOISE: When doing over my bathroom this year, I got a new fur-like lid cover. I put a piece of clear plastic over the lid cover and tucked it in all around to protect it from soil. I can still see the color and flowers through the plastic. It really

saves washing it so much, especially for those who have a large family. Mrs. P. J. Bragg • * • DEAR HELOISE: If you have a doorknob hitting against your furniture or wall, just fit a plastic kitchen scrubber over the knob. It will prevent those marred places on your furniture or walls. They usually come in colors, so would serve a purpose and look attractive, too. Mrs. C. D. Benoit * * • LETTER OF LAUGHTER DEAR HELOISE: For those fatties who are on a diet, I finally learned that my delicious cheesecakes have turned to “pound” cakes . . . Calories- -Ugh! Miss Sears • * * DEAR HELOISE: In order to eliminate searching for specific pieces of clothing when seasons change, I tape index cards on each clothes bag, box and piece of luggage in which I store clothes. On each card I itemize the contents of the container and the date of the “inventory”. Surely is a time-saver for me. Selma * $ * DEAR HELOISE: If you have a small ivy plant you want to hang on the wall, try what I did. I cut a large plastic detergent bottle in half, but I left the one side a little higher than the other. Then I punched a hole near the top with an ice pick. I spray-painted mine before filling it but one could also cover them with adhesivebacked plastic. I put my ivy plant in the little container and hung it on Continued on Page 12
