sense of proportion about his own efforts. His Thursday night program will carry self-written fictitious advance reviews of his show. “I will neither seek, nor accept this show,” reads one from the Johnson City “Lameduck.” Another raves “Oh, come on now!” from theStilesville’‘Democrat.” One non-fictitious review was offered by one of Lindquist’s profs, Larry Sutton: “This is not truly what we could call absurd theatre, but it displays a novel, imaginative approach to Daryl’s conception of the human condition. In his conception I think his show displays imagination, novelty and creativity.” Lindquist, who has a date with the Marine Corps September 3, has several other irons in the dramatic and musical fires of campus. Two more one-act plays being constructed by the speech and drama major are “Brandy” and “The Roof.” Brandy is a social commentary on race and religion. The Roofprobes the goingson on a tenement roof. And then there’s a movie script, The Touch, Lindquist has plunged into. Lindquist figures he’s sort of a collegiate literary sponge, soaking up life and events a-
bout him, then wringing it back out through his own literary or musical devices. A song, “Friday Sunset” was Inspired by simply that. The death of Martin Luther King resulted in a blues jazz number he called “Eulogy.” Among the musical weapons at his disposal to attack his inspirations are the piano, guitar, trumpet, string bass, baritone and drum. He plays 'em all. His musical talent comes naturally. His father, a 1943 alumnus of DePauw, is head of the music program in the Portage school system. A lot of the information Lindquist Jots down comes from his episodic travels. A spring vacation trek carried him to San Francisco, hitch-hiking with a fellow student. “We spent the first night sleeping in an abandoned motel near Tulsa. The next night we slept in a hayloft near Vega, Tex. A brief visit to a hippie colony east of San Francisco and filling out tax forms for a motoring high school basketball coach from Kansas provided relief—and copy—for Lindquist. This summer Lindquist is enrolled for graduate courses in theatre at Stanford University. After the Marine stint he hopes to start at a repertory night club like “Second City” in Chicago. Hopefully will follow a career in writing, acting or teaching.
