Wall street chatter
By RICK DU BROW HOLLYWOOD (UPI)- Television’s two surest bets for highrated entertainment specials are Bob Hope and the animated cartoons based on the “Peanuts” comic strip. The most popular group of documentaries, by far, are the National Geographic hours. The past season’s single most popular special was Hope’s annual Christmas Show on NBC* TV. This is the 90-minute program based on his yearly Yule tour to American servicemen based abroad. For the past several years, the show has focused on Vietnam. These facts, and many others, are revealed in a listing of the season’s specials by the show business weekly, “Variety.” HOPE, PEANUTS SCORE The list, which does not include news documentaries or ABC-TV’s two-hour “Theatre Night” adaptations, indicates that of the top 10 specials, three are Hope broadcasts and three others “Peanuts” cartoons. The three “Peanuts” broadcasts are “A Charlie Brown
Christmas,” “He’s Your Dog, Charlie Brown” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” They finished second, fourth and eighth. Top of all the documentaries was the National Geographic’s “Amazon,” which came in seventh. Others in the top 10 were a Tennessee Ernie Ford hour, the “Ice Capades” and a Jack Benny special. The next 10 shows, in order, were: Another Hope special, the Andy Williams Christmas Show,
Sunday miners WALSALL, England (UPI)— Hundreds of Britons mined their own coal Sunday in a rich deposit uncovered by road builders. The Sunday miners used picks, spades and bare hands to sink more than 50 shafts in the acre-sized, OO-foot-deep hollow. No official claim had been made to the deposit by the National Coal Board.

“Dear Mr. Gable” (a documentary about Clark Gable), the Bill Cosby hour, “The Fabulous Funnies” (about comic strips), another Hope special, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” an hour about the Harlem Globetrotters, the movie “The King and I” (presented as a special), and yet another Hope show. SINATRAS WINNERS The Sinatras, father and daughter, did quite well in the specials department, with both getting excellent reviews in their separate hours, and Nancy outpointing Frank in the ratings. “Moving’ with Nancy” finished 24th, and Frank came in 48th in his memorable musical hour with Ella Fitzgerald and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Rounding out the top 30 specials were: “G r i z z 1 y!” and “Winged World” (both National Geographic hours), Perry Como’s Thanksgiving broadcast, “Moving’ with Nancy,” a show about the Radio City Music Hall at Christmas time, the Fred Astaire special, a Don Knotts hour, another Hope program, “Cinderella” and Jack Paar’s annual outing.
NEW YORK (UPI)—Wright Investors' Service says the “investment significance” of the last few weeks is to be found in the “strength and resilience which produced the great leap upward.” The analyst says it believes this strength will persist and that the March lows will not be pierced despite the “frustration and disappoint, ments” anticipated later in the year. Thomson & McKinnon says the market is somewhat overbought and a “degree of shortterm vulnerability” is developing, although any setback is not likely to carry very far. The company notes that “cumulative bearishness” of recent months has left too many cash holders in a position where they will be competing to establish positions on any reaction. Blair & Co. says it expects further individual strength as long as initial Vietnam peace talks remain a strong possibili. ty. It offers the opinion that selectivity will increase in the coming weeks since an expand, ing number of equities again “are getting close to adequately appraising foreseeable earnings prospects.”
