By DICK WEST WASHINGTON (UPI)—Here’s a little pop sociology quiz. From the following list, identify' mankind’s four main motivating

forces:

1. Food. 2. Clothing. 3. Shelter. 4. Sex. 5. Waving at

television cameras.

If you picked 1, 2, 3 and 5, you are eminently correct. Sex used to be one of the basic drives but in recent years BACKACHE& TEhKIOhl SECONDARY TO I CNjiun kidney irritation Common Kidney or Bladder Irritations make many men and women feel tense and nervous from frequent

it has become so plentiful it is no longer in that category. Sociologists have been regret, tably tardy in recognizing camera-waving as a fundamental urge. For too long it was regarded as merely an impulse or reflex action, like saying “k i t c h y - kitchy • coo” whet someone hands you a baby. Had they understood sooner than human beings have a deep, kinetic need to wave at TV cameras, that knowledge might have been used as a tool in maintaining social order.

In addition to being poorly fed, badly clothed and inadequately sheltered, denizens of the ghetto rarely have an opportunity to engage in camera-waving. The extent to which that deprivation may have contributed to the sense of alienation that permeates the ghetto cannot be measured. Still it is a factor to consider in the formulation of plans to improve the lot of the nation’s

poor.

Most opportunities for came-ra-waving arise during the taping of shows that have live audiences and at sporting events. It probably would be

People-waving Programs It would, however, be fairly simple to send camera crews into such neighborhoods. I have in mind a series of weekly, 30minute programs consisting entirely of people waving. Already there is one cigarette commercial using that format. They could start out as public service programs but I am convinced that in a short while they would command such high ratings as to make sponsorship desirable. For who would watch a rerun of “Gunsmoke” if there were a chance of seeing himself wave on another channel? Using camera-waving programs as summer replacements could help maintain domestic peace in the coming months. Besides that, they would raise the general entertainment level of television.

By VERNON SCOTT UPI Hollywood Correspondent HOLLYWOOD (UPI)-For 10 successive weeks this summer Frank Sinatra will replace Dean Martin on the latter’s hour show of fun and frolic. Frank Sinatra Jr., that is. Young Frank who gains maturity, savvy and confidence every year, is now 24 and will run the show, “Dean Martin Presents the Gold Diggers” with the aid of Joey Heatherton, a strikingly beautiful singerdancer. “The 10 shows are all based on the 1930s,” young Sinatra said during a quiet period between rehearsals. “The music, costumes and jokes will spoof the old radio shows of that era; Fibber McGee and Molly, The Shadow, Jack Armstrong.” For the first time in more than five years Frank has found himself in one place for more than two or three weeks. Since he was 19, Jr. has been on the road, touring with the Dorsey orchestra, then playing clubs on his own. Frankie said NBC-TV chose the 1930s theme because it holds interest for every age group from teen-agers to old folks. “We’re giving it a light feeling of young people enjoying themselves. That’s something all generations can appreciate. The high point will be a duet every week with me and Joey.” Confident as he is, young Frank will have producerdirector Greg Garrison running the show, the very same man who gives the polish and knockabout spontaneity to Martin’s weekly romp.

“He’s the greatest,” Frank said. “Greg knows where it’s at.” Garrison has surrounded Frank and Joey with comedienne Barbara Heller and comedian Paul Lynde as regulars for the summer. The “Golddiggers” are a group of a dozen 18 to 20-year-old beauties who sing songs of the 30s and lend a hand in the sketches. “What’s really great is that most of these girls are brand new to television. It’ll give our show a fresh, new look,” Frank said.

July after serving in South Vietnam, said the dog was guarding the apartment into which Brissman and his fiancee, Miss Rita Hoover, plan to live after their wedding next week. A door-to-door salesman, calling in the apartment project, was bitten by “Meatball,” who apparently regarded him as an invader. Police were summoned and they captured the dog by putting a loop of rope around his neck. However, in the struggle, “Meatball’s” neck was broken. Brissman had enlisted the aid of Sen. Birch Bayh, D-Ind., in getting “Meatball” returned to the United States last year when he returned from South Vietnam.
