U.S. Government begins hearings on imitation milk

WASHINGTON UPI — The government begins hearings today on whether prices of ‘‘imitation milk - ' should be raised.

Specifically, the Agriculture; Department is concerned about prices of “filled milk,” a beverage containing either fresh liquid skim milk or skim milk reconstituted from nonfat dry milk with added vegetable fat in place of the natural vege-

table fat.

Dairymen want the department to apply federal minimum

The Academy Awards nominations have provoked some interesting sidelights and speculations. For instance, for the first time in years not a single British actor was nominated for the best acting award — not Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Albert Finney, Peter O’Toole, Sir Laurence Olivier or anyone.

The nominees are all American products—Justin Hoffman. Warren Beatty, Rod Steiger, Paul Newman and the late Spencer Tracy. Another thing, all five nomin-' ated pictures were made in the United States. "Guess Who's' Coming to Dinner," “The Graduate,” “In The Heat of The Night,” “Bonnie and Clyde" and “Doctor Dolittle.” which did shoot briefly on location in Eng-

land.

Parochial thinking? Provincial

pandering? Not necessarily. For the past decade American producers, directors and actom have been suffering a collective inferiority complex as almost half the awards and nominations went to our brethren across the pond.
