Joseph Pickens, of near Belle Union, entered the Putnam County Hospital Sunday afternoon and underwent surgery early Monday morning. He will be in the hospital for a week or ten days for observation and treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Trump are the parents of a son. Ronnie Leon, bom Wednesday, January 31. at the Hendricks County Hospital.
Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert L. Brown were Mr. and Mrs. Hancel Owens and son, Randy, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Church and little David Brown. The small son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Vurtis wns dismissed to his parents early Monday morning after some hours of treatment for an Infection. Sunday guests of Mrs. Roxie Bowen and daughter, Margar-
et, were Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell; Huett and friend and Mr. and Mrs. Victor DeMarco of Greenfield; also Rev. and Mrs. Frank Bum, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Bowen and O.W. Phillips. Mrs. Dora Wilson, widow of Jim Wilson, passed away at the Ruark Nursing Home Tuesday j morning. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Miller of Floyd Towmship, Putnam County. She received her high!
school education in the Newr Winchester High School. She and her husband were long time citizens of Coatesville where he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad. He passed away many years ago. The couple had one son who died in early childhood. Mrs. Wilson was a member of the local Methodist Church and was active in its affairs until she was incapacitated by ill health. Funeral ser-
vices were held Thursday mom- j ing at the Weaver Funeral Home and burial was in the local cemetery. Some thirty members of the Methodist Church attended the carry-in supper held Sunday evening. After the repast was' over, three groups were formed with a speaker for each. Rev. John Deal took one group; j Donald Waggoner a second, and Bob Hanlon the third. Discussions were conducted by each group as to how everyone might: give a better service to the church and continue its welfare both financially and spiritually.: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Crawford
and Mr. and Mrs. Grater, of near Thomtown, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bottorff on Sunday afternoon. The Coatesville Library has recently purchased several new books and among them is “Thej Lawbreaker” by Evans and Moore. Here indeed is a readable book on the “Now” people who desire every new and convenient gadget, clothes, machines and what not and no put-off. They must have them “Now.” Some of the exciting chapters are “We Never Had It So Scared,” “The New Moral!- 1 ty,” and “What Doesn’t Cause Crime.” This volume might save
the taxpayers money if it were read by those who would stop i crime. The Coatesville Library Board met the first of the week and other than routine business, the | time had arrived for election of officers for the coming year. Mrs. Mabel Davidson was chosen president; Mrs. Louise Phillips, vice president; John Gambold, secretary; Mrs. Ruth Owens, assistant secretary, and John Bombei, treasurer. There was quite a bit of excitement in the center of town Wednesday afternoon caused by a plane that circled the perimeter of the village and time
and again swept so low that tha pilot seemed to be coming into a grocery or restaurant. No one knows who he was or whyv he was doing stunt flying over* the main part of town. Thursday afternoon callers at the Maurice Wingler home wero Mr. and Mrs. Harry Morgan, of New Winchester, and Mn. Rena George, rural Coatesville. There are still flu bugs circulating over town. The past week, Mrs. Laura Biehl was quite ill and her daughter reports that she is recuperating slowly. A visit Friday afternoon to (Continued on Page 8)
