Bainbridge Saddle Club meets
The snow fell so fast the highway department was unable to get ahead of it, that Saturday night two weeks ago when the Saddle Club was to meet for the election of officers. Not to be stopped by the weather, club members came with friends, walked in order to reach a car that wasn’t snowed in, or ran over their own picnic table in order to reach the meeting and
cast their vote. Nearly thirty voting members elected Charles Skelton as the president, we are sure that Charlie will be an able leader for 1968. He will be backed up by Don Winings, vice president, Florence Skelton, secretary-, Geneve Williams, treasurer and myself, Claire Winings as news reporter. My sister, Janet Oliver, held this post last year and if you have read this
column before you know I have a big job trying to live up to her example. The board of directors will be Benton Giltz, Jim Hacker, Phil Jordan, Bob Moore, Jack Oliver, and Morris Williams. These men have a big job for we have a full year ahead of us planting trees, cutting and selling fence posts, clearing and improving our club grounds, plus planning
our shows for this year. Let’s all get behind them and lighten | their work. A day cf work can be a lot of fun if enough friends share it. Von Waggoner is one of the busiest men around these days. He recently returned from a trip to Colorado where he bought horses. He came home to a busy time here also. Saturday nights trailers start coming in
and soon horses and riders are in abundant supply. Several calves allow horses and riders to learn the fundamentals of cutting work, or provide a good workout for an old hand who is tired of the inactivity of the winter months. The talk over coffee centered around horses, training tips, and the possibility of getting a roping school started. If you are interested see Von at Stilesville or Dr. Joe Green at New Winchester. The February’’ issue of The; Western Horesman magazine features a new friend, Miss
Donna Miller. In answer to an advertisement Donna came to help Warren and Janice Butler at their “Poverty Knob Farm." Welcome Donna, we hope to see you often. Warren has offered the use of his bam to club members who want to start getting their horses in shape. It is a nice place to work out when the winter wand is howling. Jesse Tillotson. a long time member of our club who was hospitalized last year with back trouble has re-injured his back and is not feeling well at all. A talk fest helps time go by
if you are out in the area around Russellville, no one is more impatient than a grounded horseman. John Higgins is our cowboy in Vietnam. He received his complimentary membership this month and we are looking forward to the time when he will be riding with us again. His address is: Sp 4 John C. Hiegins US .15891485 155th Assault Heli. Co. APO 96297 San Francisco, California. We would like to draw the interest of Bill Perkins from
motorcycles, submarines, and winter swimming to the safe and sane world of horses. See you next month. Until then happy riding. Claire Winings News Reporter
