Greencastle Police Chief John Stevens today stated that officers in his department have been instructed to begin strict enforcement of the city's parking meter ordinance as of Tuesday morning. Stevens gave us the following combined announce* ment, appeal for cooperation and warning for pub* licity in today's Banner as well as our column: Citizens of Greencastle and Putnam County: It has come to my attention that the parking problem in Greencastle must be solved to help you find available parking space in the downtown area. The main problem is too many cars are parked overtime in spaces designated for two-hour parking. With your help and enforcement from my de* partment we are going to solve this problem. I have instructed my officers to start Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1968, enforcing Greencastle City Ordinance No. 8, 1964, by issuing parking meter tickets to all violators of overtime parking. Violators will receive yellow tickets (25c) when they fail to put money into the meter. Violators will receive red tickets ($1.00) for parking more than 2 hours at a 2-hour meter and be in danger of having their vehicle towed away at the expense of the owner. Courtesy boxes are located on certain meters for payment of fines. Failure to pay parking meter fines will result in being summoned into city court. I hope to receive the cooperation of everyone in relieving the parking problem in downtown Greencastle. John R. Stevens, Chief of Police

Coach Johnny Pont, who merly coached at Yale.
