state commissioner for the blind, to get straightened out on some inconsistencies in the reports of the Public Welfare Department on the six supposedly blinded youths. “Dr. Yoder stated the whole thing was a fabrication,” Shafer said. At a news conference Wednesday, Shafer—who had ended a Virgin Island vacation the day before—said he was reasonably sure the story of the blindings was true. But he conceded he had seen no documentary evidence and was relying on the word of Dr Thomas W. Georges, secretary of health and welfare. Dr. Georges had stated word of the blindings cam* to him from Dr. Yoder. Shafer ordered the state Justice Department under Sennett to investigate the case and report back to him today. Sennett said he demanded from Yoder the complete files on the cases. The attorney general said Yoder Informed hint he did not have the complete files and when he Sennett repeated his demand “Dr. Yoder admitted the story was a fabrication.”
Heloise— help. I’m sure they have some dandy ideas. How about it, gals ? Love, Heloise Dear Heloise: Don’t use those beautiful linen calendars for dish cloths when the year is over. Instead, cut off the months and frame the top. Just stitch it onto some cardboard and put it in a frame. The calendar part may be hemmed for your dish cloth. Mary Brooks • * • • Dear Heloise: I would like to pass on a hint we learned when we were in the restaurant business. To be able to keep leftover spaghetti and macaroni, do not add your sauce but serve it separately. Then any leftover spaghetti or macaroni can be placed in a bowl of cold water and stored in your refrigerator. When you wish to use it, drain and put it in boiling water only long enough to heat thoroughly. It is as good as fresh cooked when that good hot sauce is poured over it. And so convenient.
