NFO news
The NFO haa e tar ted it* allcommodity holding action. The NFO is leading off with grain because it takes a longer time to have an effect than other commodities. Meat will be added at a later date and the opportune time. And milk will be added at another time so that the strength of all commodities of the allcommodity holding action will reach a climax of strength at about the same time. The only way farmers can stop present low farm prices is to stop selling their production. Therefore, NFO is advising its members to put a price tag on their products—and hold for those prices. Be like other business people.
Soviet composer arrives in U.S.
NEW YORK UPI — Aram Khachaturian, the distinguished Soviet composer, has arrived for his American debut as a conductor and a six-week tour of seven U.S. cities. Khachaturian, 64, who is visiting with his wife, Nina, and their son, Karen, 23, will conduct an all-Khachaturian program in Washington Jan. 23-24. He will conduct the same program in New York Jan. 28; Indianapolis Feb. 1-2; Detroit Feb. 4; Hartford, Conn., Feb. 12; Kansas City Feb. 20-21; Chicago Feb. 29 and March 1-2; and Rochester, N.Y., March 7-8. The maestro’s only previous visit to the United States was in March, 1960, when he spent a weekend in New York en route back to Moscow from a conducting engagement in Mexico. Arriving at Kennedy International Airport Monday night, Khachaturian said he was pleased at the prospect of “seeing more of this exciting country.” "I have heard the American symphonies in recordings and now that I am here to conduct many of them I am experiencing a dream come true,” he said. Khachaturian will conduct the National Symphony Orchestra in the American Premier of his Concerto Rhapsody for Cello in Washington Jan. 23. His Third Symphony, also an American premier, will be presented in Rochester in March.
NFO is asking all non-mem bers to join the NFO immediately and support the efforts. NFO can not legally advise non-members or solicit the support of non-members. The NFO is not asking nonmembers to desert their present organization but to join NFO for the purpose of collec- | tive bargaining. Farmers . . . Now you have the chance. You are either going to join the NFO and support the effort and stop those j low farm prices—or continue to receive those low farm prices. The NFO realizes that fair farm prices will help all bankers as well as all local merchants, but the only way farmers can do it is to refuse to sell their products at the present low prices and then they will get their price. NFO is asking non-members to join the NFO now—because we need you, your leadership and your production—so we can all price our production together. Try and Stop Me

A N ENGLISHMAN, about to embark upon his first tiger hunt, received this bit of last-minute advice from an experienced big-game expert; “Conceal yourself carefully on a moonless night. When the tiger approaches, his eyes will be shining in the dark. Aim between them. He’ll fall dead from your first
shot.”
On his return, the Englishman had to report that he had bagged nary a tiger. Furthermore, he was considerably scratched and one arm seemed to be missing. “Somebody has wised up those blasted tigers,” he complained. “They now travel in pairs —and each one closes an eye!” • • • Sandy Dennis, whp graduated from bit parts to top stardom In close to record time, is an avid lover of pets. In fact, at the moment, she is the proud owner of five dogs and twenty-one —all domiciled in her Connecticut home. Sandy's husband, famous jazz composer Gerry Mulligan, says that being married to Sandy is sheer heaven. “Of course,” he adds wryly, “you have to like
cats.”

Well, the other day, Tillie, from Stockton, Calif., came to New York. She looked In the eye many females in business. The types attend functions such as she was addressing—Pilot International. women’s service group ‘round the world. She looked at all these types and she couldn’t help it. She fired all her guns. She said things like this: “Women have had the vote for 50 years but we still go along with the fiction that men are better equiped to make important decisions. Women, in their gullible way. have accepted the idea as though It were written in the stars. We’ve been brainwashed.” Don’t Blame Men *T don’t blame the men. They’ve perfected a convenient and effective weapon for eliminating half their competition.” Mrs. Lewis made other warlike statements in the battle of the sexes in business. Then she turned the guns around and
said:
“We don’t take ourselves seriously as businesswomen. We don’t anticipate resistance and we give up without really trying to get ahead.” She suggested: —“To move up be able to moveout. Since women are so security-conscious, that may sound harsh. Let’s show our confidence that our talents and experience are marketable. When you believe in yourself, in your ability to relocate and flourish, you become bolder in your present job.” —“Show your boss that because women are rated only number two, they try harder. It’s unfair, but aa a woman you do have to work harder and produce more to equal a man in recognition, and even then the odds are against you.” Another Axiom Another axiom Mrs. Lewis recommended to women in business: “Don’t be afraid to tackle a man’s work” She tackled a farmer’s work when she got interested in a certain kind of tomato seed. It was the pomodoro. Almost single-handedly ahe was responsible for its growth in the United States. Lots of people told her It j would never amount to anything. Most of them were men. She heeded her woman’s intuition and acted like a man. Presto—A firm that does more than $45 million worth of business a year. She’s president of that. And that ? It was snatched by a firm that does $800 million a year, with Tillie on the board.
