The Cheops pyramid in Egypt contains 2.3 million stones weighing about 2*6 tons each.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Matlock, who have recently moved to Greeneastle from Bloomington, will be opening THE HOUSE OF DONUTS located at 312 North Jackson Street (location of the former Hickory Hut). They hope to have their business open by the first of February or sooner if possible. They will specialize in over 25 varieties of donuts. THE DONUT HOUSE will feature a coffee bar and will also have tables and chairs so that you may come in and enjoy your coffee and donuts. Mrs. Matlock informed me that the opening hours will be from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the possibility of them staying open 24 hours a day later on. Mrs. Matlock also gave me her subscription to The Daily Banner and told me she thought Greeneastle was an excellent place to start a business. All the people here have been very nice and helpful. We thank them for the compliment about our town and wish them much success in their new business. • • • I was very surprised to walk Into Fleenor's Drug Store yesterday and see Mr. Fleenor back behind the counter. He is able to come to the store for a couple of hours a day now but says it won't be too long before he's back in full swing of things again. I know that everyone is glad to see you looking so well again, Mr. Fleenor. • • • Hey, Mr. Businessman! Have you checked the rules that go along with the new postal rates. The do's and don’ts, the why's and when’s and all the other stuff that goes along with your J mailing chores are a little different now (I think). The new postage rate law T signed by President Johnson is the most comprehensive revision in postal rates and regulations ever enacted. First of all, it adjusts rates in all categories of mail except parcel post and international mail. It calls for nonprofit publications to pay a higher postal rate on advertising content than on editorial matter. It takes a step toward the priority mail concept by merging all first-class mail over 13 ounces and all air mail over 7 ounces into a single category which will be delivered by the fastest available means of transportation. Now get this one. It requires that all bills and statements of account be classified as first-class mail. However, the provision requiring first-class postage on all bills does NOT apply to invoices that are enclosed with merchandise and serve as a request for payment, as long as the invoice relates SOLELY to the contents of the package. A cumulative bill or statement of account may not be enclosed with merchandise without payment fo first-class postage. Under a quirk in the old law, when a firm or organization had 20 or more bills or statements of account for identical amounts that had been produced by any photographic or mechanical process other than typing, they could have been mailed at the third-class bulk rate.Oh, we could go on and on, but I’m not too sure that I understand it all. To top it all off. we can’t even buy 6c stamps yet. The other day I was behind a lady who wanted to buy quite a few 1c stamps, but they wouldn't sell them to her. They sold her a few, but they just didn't have enough to go around (I guess). Now, we can't blame our local postmen for this, because they ARE trying. Who do we blame? I don’t think LBJ will listen to us. Besides I don’t have a 6c stamp to write him a letter, and 2 three’s look too sloppy.
