LBJ is sure having problems with the state of Louisiana. The Democrats loyal to President Johnson are still reeling from Thursday’s loss of control of the state Democratic central committee to backers of former Gov. George C. Wallace of Alabama. The loss could easily result in the President losing the right to the Democratic emblem on the November ballot and might put him in a pre-election primary battle with Wallace that could prove embarrassing. Those supporting Wallace have ready a resolution that would call for a primary showdown between presidential electors for Wallace and LBJ to see which would claim the Democratic roster in November, said to be worth thousands of extra votes in Louisiana. If such an election were held today, several reputable polls show Wallace would beat Johnson handily. If this would happen, the only way LBJ could get on the Louisiana ballot would be by petition. Of course, loss of Louisiana would be no surprise to the President. He has never been strong in Louisi-
