Mideast crisis conference held By United Preis International King Hussein of Jordan flies to Cairo today for “important talks” with President Nasser on the Mideast crisis. Violence flared again Friday as Israeli and Egyptian troops carried on a running gun battle across the Suez Canal for 20 minutes. An Israeli communique on the incident said Egyptian machineguns fired on a “routine Israeli patrol” 15 miles south of Ismaila on the east bank of the closed waterway. The Israelis said none of their men were hurt in the incident. In Cairo, the influential newspaper Akhbar El Youm said Nasser and Hussein will hold “important talks” on developments since the Arab summit meeting as Khartoum as well as the current United Nations General Assembly meetings. At the General Assembly Friday Egypt demanded the United States join the U.N. to force Israel out of her newly won territory. Egyptian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Raid said the U. S. must stop supporting Israel. Raid also said the Suez

Earth materials also on moon WASHINGTON UPI —In an achievement ranked by scientists as one of man’s greatest, the Surveyor 5 spacecraft has analyzed the moon’s surface and found it contains materials much like those on earth. One is basalt, an ordinary sort of rock so common earth it is found everywhere from the Palisades of the Hudson to the Deccan Plains of India. Others are silicon and oxygen, by far the most common elements on earth and apparently on the moon too. This may be disappointing to laymen who have been teased in years past by psuedo-scienti-fic speculations that the moon might be covered with diamonds and perhaps rare metals like gold or platinum. But to serious scientists it is “gratifying news” the discovery of which, one of them said Friday, “ranks as one of the greatest scientific achievements in the entire history of

man.”

Surveyor 5’s findings about the chemical composition of the lunar surface were reported in a briefing for newsmen at the headquarters of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The research appears to dis-; pel all doubts whether the moon ; was once molten and whether it still is inwardly hot and sub-j ject to volcanic turmoil. Ac-1 cording to Surveyor 5 it certainly was and surely is. Of the three Surveyor space crafts which have made soft! landings on the moon and done their photographic and other duties there.
