COATESVILLE NEWS
by Joe Davidson, Correspondent
Coatesville News starts this September 18th, with a heavy rain that is drumming on the roof and awnings and driveway. How good the sound is to the ears since such a sound has been so long in coming. The air is fresh and pure. How the grass that was parched brown revives and the late garden
vegetables take on new life. It might have been Norman Gale who wrote the lines: “God comes down in the rain, and the grass grows tall: This is the country life and the best of all.” Visitors in the Leonard Walton Home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Irvine Barnes of Moro
Bay, California, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Spencer of Hadley, Mrs. Dorothy Walton of Clayton, Mr. and Mrs. Vem Walton, William Walton, Dallas Walton and Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hathaway, local kinsmen. Mr. and Mrs. Barnes are here for a two weeks visit with kinsmen that Mrs. Barnes had not seen for close on to fifty years. She brought along an heirloom in the form of a block quilt that had the names of many of the Walton family on it along with other Coatesville folks of other days. The quilt was purchased at an auction for S35 and the money given to help build a new

Last Sunday, Mrs. Vivian Sutherlin, Ethel Ader, Helen Jones and Edna Smith decided on a short trip and a dinner since it was the birthday of Mrs. Jones. They had a smorgasbord dinner west of Brazil and then drove in for a short stay in Terre Haute. Coatesville Christian Church

back in ten years. Jack was a real “go-getter - ’ among all the boys of the town. He kept them so busy and so interested in baseball and other activities that they had no time for mischief. As our town marshall put it after a hand shake with Jack: “If Jack had stayed in Coatesville for the ten years he has been away the town would never have needed a town marshall.'’ Reverend Nichols will leave Wednesday morning for New York City where he has a business engagement. It has been a real pleasure to see this active, Chrstian worker agan.
Louis Whicker, age 69 was brought to the Weaver Funeral Home for services and burial. He was a native of Stilesville. Services were conducted by Reverend John Underwood at 2:00 Wednesday and burial was in the Stilesville Cemetery. The Cascade junior high football team was host to a team from Mooresville Monday evening. The Cadets lost the game by a score of 13-6. This Friday evening, Sept. 22, Charlton High will meet Cascade varsity on the local field at 8:00. There are five straight home games to be played. Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs.
Delbert Allee received a long distance call. Speaking on the line was a voice from the past. It was Reverend Jack Nichols at the airport in Indianapolis wanting transportation t o Coatesville. Forest Bowen and Pearl accompanied by Mrs. Allee went to the airport to greet him and that evening, Delbert and Mozella Allee had open house for him and he spent the night with them. Forest Bowen had Jack take his car for the next day to drive to Amo and over tha community shaking hands with the people who loved him. Tues(Continued on Page 5)
