Four states running out of time on time problem
WASHINGTON UPI — Most Americans now spend half their year on daylight saving time, like it or not. But residents of five states still have some say
on the subject.
Time is running short for four of those states, Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas and North Dakota. They will have until Oct. 20 to tell the Department of Transportation what exceptions they want to make to the rules. Kentucky, which is chopped

As for the other four states, j the Transportation Department j will close up its records Oct. 20 j and start considering petitions 1 j from the governors, along with letters for and against proposed
changes.
“The people in the states know better than we in Wash- ; ington where the time zone lines should go,” said a department spokesman. “We’re just doing our darndest to help them solve all the problems and still stay within the law.” Under the 1966 Uniform Time ! law, enacted to bring order into ! the chaotic observance of day- ! light saving time, clocks must | stay an hour ahead, from the j last Sunday in April to the last' ■ Sunday in October, in every i state except where the legisla-; i ture specifically acted to keep

Wall Street Chatter NEW YORK UPI—Winslow, Cohu & Stetson suggests that i the stock market may be having a “selling climax” as Indicated by the decline in selling pressure and sharply diminished volume in recent weeks. The investment firm says the extreme dullness with no trend apparent suggests the strong likelihood of a post-Labor Day rally, led by performance stocks.
The Janeway Service says that on the near term the : market is in a technically oversold position, and suggests that a rally is overdue. If there is a rally, the analyst says, it; . should afford a selling opportu- ; nity for money “not content to j stay put for a while.”
Kahn. Peck & Co. says it feels the current uncertainties weakj ening the market will have only ; a transitory impact. The com1 pany says that if the weakness is viewed as a pause rather than a retreat, opportunities have been created for stock purchases at reasonable levels.

the electric company.. Fti’z-b Service Indiana
Last year our customers paid more than $36.7 million in federal, state and local taxes in their electric bills. Taxes make up more than 27^ of each dollar for electric service. But despite the growing tax load, electricity remains low in cost because of new economies, efficiencies and technology. That's why electric service is the big
bargain in your budget.
