their annual two week summer field training at Camp Atterbury on August 19, it was announced today by Major General John S. Anderson, Adjutant General, State of Indiana. The men will train in lieu of the cancelled “Operation Kittyhawk,” a training exercise which was to include National Guard troops, regular Army personnel and all facets of military reserve and regular forces. The brigade is commanded by Col. Robert B. Wilson, Indianapolis and has its headquarters in Columbus. Those training will be from units based at Danville, Jasper, New Albany, Washington, Tell City, Shelbyville, Seymour, Greensburg, Connersville, Martinsville, Salem, Scottsburg, Fort Wayne, Boswell, Richmond, Winchester, Monticello, Rensselaer, Port land, Kokomo, South Bend, Kempton, Elkhart, LaPorte, Elwood and Indianapolis. A Brigade review will be on the Atterbury parade grounds Friday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. Persons wishing to attend are asked to check in at Building 6119, Camp Atterbury, for instructions. Training at Atterbury will consist of combat training at all levels from squad to brigade. The men will return home September 2.

Citizens want Carmichael bad WASHINGTON UPI — The Justice and State Departments are receiving thousands of letters from irate Americans urging that black power militant Stokely Carmichael be barred from returning to the United States or prosecuted for sedition. The letters, officials said, tend to blame the Johnson administration for allowing Carmichael to travel to Communist Cuba where he has called for organized guerrilla warfare in American cities. Many letter writers have urged that if Carmichael does return to the United States from the Communist meeting, he be deprived of his American nationality and prosecuted for treason. The Justice Department has clamped a tight lid on speculation about the possibility of sedition charges being filed against Carmichael. Sources said, however, that he has been under close scrutiny since the summer of 1966. A department spokesman conceded Carmichael’s Havana statements are under review, but said he has stayed until now within court-defined boundaries of allowable free speech and is still legally untouchable by federal prosecutors. At this point, it would appear impossible either to prosecute Carmichael for treason or take away his citizenship, the spokesman said.

Fullbright raps "Great Society" HONOLULU —Sen. J. William Fulbright Tuesday said President Johnson’s great society is “a sick society” and that the United States has become "a symbol of violence and undisciplined power.” He said the nation’s hope was in the “remarkable younger generation.” In his latest attack on the administration’s policies, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee asked: “How can we commend peaceful compromise to the Arabs and Israelies when we are unwilling to suspend our relentless bombing of North Vietnam ? “H o w can we commend Democratic social reform to Latin America when Newark, Detroit and Milwaukee are providing explosive evidence of our own inadequate efforts at democratic social reform? “How can we commend the free enterprise system to Asians and Africans when in our country it has produced vast, chaotic, noisy dangerous and dirty urban complexes while poisoning the very air and land and water?” He claimed the Vietnam war was “poisoning and brutalizing our domestic life . . . the great society has become a sick society." i

NEW YORK UPI—Bache A Co. says the stock market may be in for a period of consolidation in the near term but, judging from its demonstrated resiliency, higher prices may be in line after the pause. The company says the major near term factor affecting the market will be the outcome of the indecisive auto negotiations.

Jay F. Gershkoff of C. B. Richard, Ellis & Co. thinks the market could reach a temporary top in the near future, probably followed by a period of consolidation and regrouping. The analyst anticipates another strong upward surge toward the end of the year provided there is a pickup in the economy.

Holders of jobs set new record WASHINGTON UPI — The government reported today more Americans held jobs in July than at any time in the nation’s history. At the same time, unemployment during the month dropped slightly to 3.9 per cent. The number of persons employed during July was 76.2 million. Unemployment stood at 3.2 million. One of the main reasons for the July increase was an influx of teen-agers into the labor force for the summer. There were 10.7 million youths between the ages of 16 and 21 employed during July, an increase of 400,000 jobs over July, 1966.

Kenneth Ward of Hayden, Stone, Inc. believes the market’s progress this fall could be tempered by such uncertainties as the auto strike deadline, the debate over the 10 per cent surtax proposal and the already strong headway made by the Dow Jones industrial average. He believes, therefore, although the trend seems bullish, caution should be exercised in making new comihitments.

NEW YORK UPI—Strength in some of the economic indicators, including the recent advance in machine tool orders, improvement in construction, carloadings and auto economy, says Alexander Hamilton Institute. The investment advisory firm said it believes this uptrend bolsters its views that “cautious optimism” is currently the wisest attitude for investors.”

Oil tank is damaged by fire EAST CHICAGO, UPI — Fire broke out on an oil tanker late Tuesday night and two sailors leaped into Lake Michigan to escape the flames. Authorities said George Wygant, Philadelphia, Pa., and Walter Berkle, Toledo, Ohio, jumped into the water from the tanker Great Lakes and swam to shore. Cause of the blaze and damage to the tanker, owned by the Sinclair Oil Ca., were not determined. It took firemen about an hour to contain the flames.
