& Leagues STANDINGS
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. UPI —Old pro Julius Boros and young Ray Floyd and Dick Lotz led by one stroke with two-under-par 70s today going into the second round of the $100,000 Minnesota Golf Classic. Only 10 golfers in a field of 144 were par or better on the Hazeltine National golf course, a rugged, dog-legged new layout built especially for championship play. Larry Mowry and Harold Henning were one stroke back of the leaders and five others had even par 72—Jack McGowan, Gardener Rickinson, Dudley Wysong, Bob Verwey and Doug

The pros’ reactions to the 7,200-yard course, loaded with woods, dog-legs, hills, water holes, traps and huge greens, ranged from “great” to “the toughest I’ve seen.” Boros, who fired a 34-36 Thursday then went fishing said he was “pretty well satisfied” with his game and liked
the course.
“The greens are as good as you’ll find and the course is just
great,” Boros said.

Women’s golf championship. Mrs. Dye, wife of golf course architect Pete Dye, reached the finals with an easy 6 and 5 victory over Ann Wilhoite. Indianapolis, in Thursday’s semifinals. Mrs. Werneke, the Terre Haute city champ playing in the tourney’s championship fiight for the first time upset ’ ; 1965 winner Carmen Piasecki of South Bend, 1-up, to reach the finals in her first try. Mrs. Werneke, 35, tapped in a five-foot putt on the final hole for a par and her stunning victory over the 18-year-old Miss Piasecki. Even a bogey would have been good enough at that point, since Miss Piasecki topped her second shot into a gully and finished with a double-bogey 7 for the hole. Miss Piasecki was 1-up at the turn of their match over the tricky Terre Haute Country Club course but Mrs. Werneke won two of the next three holes to go ahead. But Miss Piasecki then took the 14th and 15th to regain the lead at 1-up. Miss Piasecki retained the
to assure herself of a berth in the finals. In contrast, the other semifinal was virtually a rout. Miss Wilhoite, a DePauw University senior, won the first hole when Mrs. Dye took a bogey but that was her last bright moment. Mrs. Dye. who last won the state title five years ago, was 3-up at the turn and she took the next three holes with pars. She closed out the match when they halved the 13th.
