Cloverdale News By Mrs. Ralph Fry

The Cloverdale Home Extension Club held their annual picnic dinner at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Rice Wednesday, July 19, with eight members and two guests present, Mrs. Mary Jo Rice and daughters and Mrs. Ruth Mannan. After the business entertainment was craft work followed by an auction the club holds each month at close of the meeting. The August meeting will be with Mrs. Melba Haltom.

Mrs. Maude Farmer has returned home after visiting several days with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Faye Dean Farmer of Indianapolis. Mrs. Mary Logan attended Old Friends Day at the Brazil Park all day Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lunie Lewie, Mrs. Mary Hurst, Mre. Nellie McKee, Mrs. Belle Lesley, and Fred Allen attended the state convention of World War I Veterans at Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Maude Cook of Indianapolis and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dodson were guests Tuesday for dinner with Mrs. Belle Lesley. Mrs. Cook visited until Wednesday evening. Mrs. Esther Fry visited over the weekend with Mrs. Olive Baird and Mrs. Nona Routh of Fincastle. They attended the fair at Russellville Friday and Saturday evenings. The World War I Barracks and Auxiliary 1994 will hold their regular meeting Tuesday evening, August 1, with a carry-in dinner. Mrs. Olive Harcourt who has been in the Putnam County Hospital for several weeks has been moved to the Donna No. 1 Nursing Home in Cloverdale. Billie Houghton Henson has been named honor carrier of his district of The Indianapolis Star for the preceding three month period. Last Tuesday Mrs. Eliza Query celebrated her birthday. Those who helped in the celeb r a t i o n were Mrs. Naomi Coons,, Mrs. Beverly Forbis and daughters, Darla and Dawn, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Smith and daughter, Esther, and grandchildren, Vickie and Becky, and Ruth Routt Mrs. Eliza Query called on Alta Haltom Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. John Logan and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Knoll of Martinsville were dinner guests of Mrs. Mary Logan Friday evening. Keith Summers of New Jersey and Mr. and Mrs. William Bastian of Terre Haute were dinner guests recently of the Rev. and Mrs. James Bastian and family. Mrs. Frances McClure was a dinner guest Thursday of the Rev. and Mrs. James Bastian family. Mrs. Mary Lee Bastian, James Bastian n, and Rev. and Mrs. James Bastian were guests of Frances McClure to see the play “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” playing at Greencastle Thursday evening. Mrs. Guila Miller and sons of Clayton came down July 19 and helped her father celebrate his birthday, Virgil Smiley and Mrs. Smiley. Mrs. LaRue Gray returned to work at Currie’s Sundries Monday evening. She has been on vacation for two weeks where she visited in Crawfordsville and New Ross. Mrs. Lucy Cline and Miss Mamie Cline attended a wedding Saturday at Southport. The wedding was that of the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Miller. Mrs. Eileen Furr was recent callers of Mrs. Eliza Querry. Dinner guests Saturday evening of Mrs. Minnie Sprinkle, Jim and Mermon, were Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Goffinet and girls of Terre Haute. Callers of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence O’Conner Sunday were Mrs. Mary Money and daughter of Indianapolis, Mrs. Doris Brinson, Debbie and Kenneth Edwards. Miss Connie Clark of Spencer was a dinner guest Friday evening of Jim and Mermon Sprinkle. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Shumaker attended the Sunday School picnic of the New Providence Church Sunday. Mrs. Jessie Curtis of Spencer called on Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stockwell Wednesday afternoon. Extension of sympathy to the family of Mrs. Gertrude Chenoweth and Virgil Church in their bereavement is shared by all.

COPTER CRASHES ROME UPI—A Turkish Air Force helicopter carrying an Italian television crew covering Pope Paul VT’s trip crashed at sea off Izmir, Turkey, the Italian New Agency (ONSA) reported Wednesday. The agency said all four persons aboard were rescued.
