Man is held on murder charge FORT WAYNE UPI—Richard Jones, 62, was held on a preliminary charge of murder today in the fatal shooting of a tenant in his rooming house. Booker T. Dawson, 63, was found shot to death early Tuesday night in his room and police said he was killed by a shotgun blast fired through the door of the room. Another roomer, Wesley Smith, 47, found the body after he discovered the riddled door and kicked it in. Jones was picked up when he returned to the house Tuesday night and police said he admitted the slaying. Lt. James Ellenwood quoted Jones as saying he went to the room to collect the rent and Dawson struck him and threw him out. Jones told Ellenwood he went and got a shotgun and fired a blast through the door.

There seemed to be practically no way of getting through the garage. . . Dad painted little Individual parking lots and he wrote each child’s name cm them. Every bike had to be parked in the correct lot or the owner paid a fine. Since then the garage has been in perfect order. Loretta Murray • e • « Thanks, Loretta, for sharing this with us. A little effort and a little thought sometimes brings family harmony. Wouldn’t you say so? Heloise see* Letter of Laughter Dear Heloise: On these hot days I put my 8-month-old son in my seldomused turkey roaster on the kitchen floor. I add a toy and about an inch of water, then dip a towel underneath it unless I plan to mop ... He’s cool, happy and in view while I do the dishes. That same roaster makes a perfect traveling bathtub at the beach, too. N. L. * • • * Dear Heloise: Before you throw away that old steel wool scouring pad, snip it into little pieces with your favorite but dull pair of scissors and see how sharp it makes them. Skimmed Milk for Cooking

There’s a new evaporated skimmed milk — 99% fat free — that cuts way back on fat-calories and on cost (Use it straight from the can for creaming coffee and f. r all your cooking needs, too.) It’s skimmed milk concentrated. So it’s creamy and rich. Here it coats and holds crumbs for crisping chicken. And, it whips to give lightness and milk goodness to a freezer dessert Oven-Baked Chicken 1 cut-up chicken (2Vi to 1 cup com flake crumbe 3 lbs.) teaspoons salt % cup Pet Evaporated V4 teaspoon pepper Skimmed Milk Dip chicken into milk. Mrs. David Budd is chairman at Plainfield

Recently, the Shorthorn Lassie’s, sponsored a luncheon at Hospitality House in Plainfield. Hie program was planned by a committee with Mrs. David Budd of Lebanon as chairman. Several of the former Lassie queens and princesses were present and introduced. Miss Virginia Webb, a former Lassie queen and 1967 Purdue graduate gave us a brief and interesting outline of a new approach to extension work being introduced. Dick Harper, President of the Junior Shorthorn Association gave a brief summary of the Junior achievements during the year. The highlight of the day was the presentation of the Princesses and the crowning of the Queen. Four princesses reigned with the queen this year. The princesses elected were Miss Nancy Barnett of Portland, Jay County; Miss Dorsun Holmes of Huntertown, Allen County; Miss Angela Leap of Flat Rock, Shel-

by County and Miss Becky Miller of Jonesboro, Grant County. Miss Lisa Buck of Bedford, Lawrence County was crowned Queen of the Lassie organization for 1967-68 by Miss Karen Richardson of Clayton, the retiring queen. The grilz were escorted by Keith Carrigton of Russellville and Max Smith of Linden. The girls will be available to attend and assist at as many county fairs and Gold Metal shows as possible.
