50 drown
WARSAW UPI —At least 50 persons were drowned in separate incidents in Poland over the weekend, the Polish news agency Pap said Monday.
Long ball
CHESTER, N.J. UPI—The longest softball game in history continued for a fourth day today with the Nightowls leading the Daydreamers as the teams approached the 400th inning. The 20 players from West Morris Regional High School began the game at Far Hills fairgrounds for the benefit of the American Cancer Society Saturday and were expected to continue until late today. Monday they broke their longevity record of 310 innings for a game set last year and decided to go for the 400 mark.
ON THE Farm Front By Larry D. Hatfield WASHINGTON UPI—A government farm economist said today it would be “logical” to expect some food riots in India before the critical shortages caused by the closure of the Suez Canal ease. John Parker, a South Asian specialist for the Agriculture Department, said the food shortages should ease by next week with the arrival of Food for Peace shipments from the United States. Meanwhile, House Republican Leader Gerald R. Ford, Mich., disclosed Thursday that an American ship loaded with 27,000 tons of grain bound for India has been trapped in the Suez Canal since June 5. Fbrd said there are several ships sunk at various points in the canal and the Egyptians intend to keep the canal closed for two months. In India, armed guards have been ordered to escort trains and police have intensified their patrols of national highways in West Bengal State, where hungry crowds are looting food
shipments.
Near famine conditions exist in several districts and free kitchens have been opened in the districts of Burulia and Bankura to feed thousands of hungry people a day. In addition, truck drivers in many areas have refused to haul food —particularly wheat and rice— because of the disturbances. Parker said the pinch resulting from the delays is now at its height and will remain critical for the next several days. Additional shipments from Australia will also help to ease the situation, he said. The United States will send more than one million tons of grain a month during the next) three months, Parker said, so the outlook for the summer is for adequate food supplies.

Robinson.
No fish story
DENVER UPI—Mrs. Olive L. Thomas, 41, of Lakewood, insisted it was no fish story. She said she bit into a roll at a coffee shop and caught a
fishhook in her tongue.
A district court jury believed her and awarded her $6,000.

Monkeys shine brain research ATLANTA UPI — Glenda, Pam and Bob have it made They live on their own private island and spend their days munching fruit and playing in their small wooded paradise, located on the campus of Emory University here. They are monkeys with a
mission.
Glenda, Pam and Bob are being used by Emory’s primate research center in an experiment to see if scientists can provoke certain responses by brain stimulation. The study, supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is called “Control and Analysis of Primate Behavior by Brain Telestimulation and Telemetry.” Dr. Brian W. Robinson, chief of the center’s neurophysiology laboratory, said he hopes the study will shed more light on the part the brain plays in emotion and behavior. Eventually, he hopes to experiment with monkeys fitted with stimulation devices and telemetry equipment. Telestimulation, he explained, is the stimulation of specific areas of the brain by remote

Glenda, Pam and Bob, however, are unfettered by such scientific paraphernalia. They were placed on the 180-by-60-foot island in Lullwater Lake merely to assure that monkeys will be able to live there. “We wanted to see if the monkeys would live on the island and if people would leave them alone so they could live

DALLAS UPI—Some apartments have trouble with mice, but the Western Parks Apartments in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas is having trouble with alligators. Police were called to the apartment complex Monday to
love the island and the people have not bothered them.” The monkeys haven’t been so lucky with the ducks and geese, however. “They have a standing battle with each other,” said Robinson. 'The monkeys seem to be determined to keep the other animals off the is-
