NOTES AND QUOTES from BETTY H. SENDMEYER t^unty Extension Agent • Home Feonomlet

publication “How to Prevent and Remove Mildew," Home and Garden Bulletin No. 68. You may obtain * copy from the County Extension Office.

During the hot humid weather, you often will find spots of mildew on clothes and household items. Mildew flourishes in damp, warm poorly aired places such as cellars and closets. To prevent mildew, keep the house as dry as possible. Keep places where mold might grow as clean as you can, since dust supplies food for mildew to start on. Air poorly ventilated closets and drawers occasionally, to dry a closet, bum a small electric light in it continuously. Run an electric fan in places that don’t have natural breezes. If you can’t ventilate the area adequately, you can spray it

with a fungicide aerosol spray. To keep mildew from starting on mattresses, draperies and curtains, spray them with a silicone water repellent spray. These sprays are odorless and colorless. .You can apply a mildew-resistant finish that is weather resistant to outdoor furniture, awnings and tents. However, these sprays may leave a distinctive odor, tint and stiffen the fabric. Leather garments, shoes, bags and suitcases may also be at tacked. A wax dressing is good protection for some of these items, or they may be sprayed with a suitable fungicide. For more detailed information, I recommend the USDA

TJ7HEN TECHNICOLOR was something brand new in W Hollywood, one celebrated producer, famous for his bursts of temper as well as his occasional misuse of the English language, offered a “great big musical in dazzling color.” “Remember,” he would caution his technicians, “in MY picture the vanilla ice cream, must look like vanilla, the chocolate like chocolate, and the strawberry like strawberry.” After hearing this admonition a hundred times, the crew made a special shot in color of a bowl of luscious chocolate ice cream and ran it for the producer. There was a moment of appreciative silence—and then the producer announced ecstatically, “Mmm, STRAWBERRY!” • • • An enterprising agent would Hke to persuade Senator Dirksen and Adam Clayton rowett ta cat a record tognttwe.
