; hint

Sometimes those plastic balls get dented from use. Don’t throw them away. Simply dip one (held lightly by tongs) into boiling water. Do not squeeze because the ball will get very soft. Only keep it in the hot water a minute, then remove and place on soft

linen.

This is ah excellent moneysaver because the heat expands • the ball, making it almost as good as new. Table Tennis Fan • • « • Heloise welcomes all mail, especially household hints which she can pass on to readers as space permits. However, because of the tremendous volume | of mail she receives daily. .Heloise is unable to answer all individual letters. She will an-

swer readers’ question in her column whenever possible.

Flip of coin decided career of Edie Adams

By Patricia E. Davis NEW YORK UPI — Edie Adams’ career was decided by a toss of a coin. After graduating from high school in Tenafly, N. J., Edie was tom between a love of singing and an equally strong desire to become a dress designer. She had to choose between going to Juilliard School of Music or attending the Traphagen School of Fashion Design. A toss of the coin influenced her choice to go to Juilliard.

“I might have been competition for Hattie Carnegie” had the coin flipped differently,” Edie says. Edie, who recently headlined the show at Jules Podell’s Copacabana night club in New York City, says her ‘‘happiest recollections” are of times spent in singing. During her childhood she sang in ‘‘just about every school and church choir there was.” After five years at Juilliard

Chutist suffers broken back PEORIA, HI. UPI — Larry Schell, 25, Indianapolis, suffered a broken back Saturday when his main chute failed to open during a skydiving exhibition at the Mount Hawley Airport. Schell was reported in fair condition at Proctor Community Hospital here. An official at the exhibition sponsored by the Peoria Parachute Club, said Schell’s main chute opened partially and that the lines of his main chute became entangled. Schell, who has more than 900 jumps to his credit, was making a ‘‘style jump,” his third in the past two years.

Faletic-Eyler Nuptials June 10 Miss Sheila Eyler became the bride of Louis Faletic, Jr., Saturday, June 10, at 2:00 p.m. at her home in Poland. The Rev. Dewey Groover of Greencastle officiated at the ceremony, j Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. George Eyler, Jr., of ; Poland. Mr. Faletic is the son of ' Mr. and Mrs. Louis Faletic, Sr., of Stilesville.

ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Wells, Cloverdale, 60 years today June 19.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a short length white lace dress with a short tulle veil. Her bridal bouquet was of miniature red and white roses. Miss Dorothy Dodson of Poland was maid of honor, and Merlin Martin of Amo was best man. Mrs. Laura Cooper was matron of honor. A reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the home. Guests were members of the immediate families. After a short honeymoon the bride and groom will make their home in Monrovia.

Edie decided to switch from classical to pop music after being advised by conductor Archie Blyer that she ‘‘would end up with all sorts of job offers” is she sang pop numbers rather than serious music. Blyer was right, and Edie began to perform on television, in motion pictures, on Broadway and in night clubs. Edie’s clothing extravagance really began when her career was launched. For one engagement that netted her a meager salary, Edie went out and bought a $1,000 gown, using her father’s charge accounts at a New York department store. ‘‘When ‘Variety’ reviewed my performance,” she recalls, "they said nothing about my singing, but my gown got a rave.” Edie, a talented singer, comedienne and mimic, is careful not to let her career interfere with her home life. She and her husband, music publisher Marty Mills, have a sizeable household which includes her three daughters, Betty and Hippie (Ernie Ko-

vac’s daughters by his previous marriage before he wed Edie and whom she adopted following Kovac’s death in 1962) and Mia Susan, Edie and Kovac’s daughter. Edie’s main hobby is still dress designing, and she makes

many of her own clothes to supplement her top designer wardrobe. So she does manage to indulge in both her love of singing and her love of clothes. That flip of the coin didn’t matter so much after all.
