In Memory In loving memory of our Mother, Addie Irwin, who left us June 3, 1961 and our Father, Robert Irwin, who left us August 7, 1965. Though their smiles are gone forever. And their hands w e cannot touch. We will never lose sweet memories, Of the ones we loved so much. Not now but in the coming years It may be in a better land, We’ll read the meaning of our tears, And then up there we’ll understand. God knows the day, He holds the key, And guides wth unerring hand. Some time with tearless eye we’ll see, And then up there we’ll understand. The years may wipe out many things, But this they wipe out never. The memory of those happy days, When we were all together. Sadly missed by the children

Guild Hears Talk By Hospital Head James Shepherd, Administrative Superintendent of the hospital addressed the Putnam County Hospital Guild at their May meeting held recently. “The Hospital Guild — The Ambassadors of the Hospital” was his topic. He stressed the role the Guild plays in the hospital routine and the services rendered and happiness achieved by this work. Mr. Shepherd feels the Hospital Guild provides good therapy as patients are often in deep moments of despair and apprehensiveness. Dedicated and sincere people with personalities, feelings and attitudes bring life to a hospital. Also, enthusiasm towards the hospital and knowledge of its good work create the right attitude in the community. Thorough knowledge of her job is needed by the Guild members as well as how it relates to the Hospital policy. The Hospital and Guild members must work together for effectiveness. In conclusion Mr. Shepherd stated, “Your zest and compassion in your service to patients greatly assists the Hospital in balancing basic science and technology with compassion and humility in providing the necessary care to the pa tient. For this I sincerely feel the Guild member will receive the greatest rewards of happiness, because she has served mankind unselfishly, without a selfish interest for herself.”

Dear Folks: For those of you who cook instant rice or anything that says, “put the lid back on . . ." Did you know that after you stir the contents in the pot, and put the lid back on, that if you twist the lid and let it spin a bit as if you were playing a roulette wheel . . . that the steam from the hot water would seal the lid? You can’t possibly lift that lid without a firm pull! Try It next time. I also find that it utilizes the same idea as a pressure cooker. Not one iota of that steamy heat will escape. And your food will stay warmer longer. How’s about that? Heloise • • • • Dear Heloise: I always keep s piece of sandpaper handy to polish my garden tools with after each use. It removes all particles of the damp soil that causes rust and pits on the tools. Florence J. Conway • • * • Dear Heloise: A clip board is so handy on a car trip. Just fold your map and clip it to the board showing the part needed. You can also keep a few pieces of notebook paper under the map for notes or instruc-
tions.
Sure prevents a lot of loose maps flopping around the car and you also have a nice writing board. London Lou • • * • Letter of Laughter Dear Heloise: Well, whatever will be will be, so there is nothing to do but wait and see. I try to keep my fingers crossed—but find it mighty hard to type that way. Doris D. • • * • Dear Heloise: Exercising can be such a drudge that we often find ourselves neglecting it This is the way I take mine. I turn on a really danceable record and convert my exercises into dances. I dance all over my living room, all by myself! It’s a method of self-expres-sion and I find I feel better physically and mentally! This turns drudgery into fun for me! Try it. Aline Becker • • • • I did and I had a ball. But I wouldn’t let my teen-ager, husband or neighbors see me for anything!!! Dear Heloise: If you have two throw rugs exactly alike that are foam backed and shedding rubber terribly . . . scrape as much of the rubber backing off as possible and sew the two rugs together, back to back. Just whip stitch around the edges with matching thread. Now you have a reversible rug which will give you twice
the wear. Mrs. Gloria Eskew • « • • Thanks oodles, Gloria! This idea is what I call getting the most out of something that didn’t last as long as we thought it should. If you have just one rug with this shedding problem, fold it in half and stitch around the three open sides. Makes a nice bath mat Heloise • • • • Dear Heloise: Do you hate to open sardine cans and such which require the use of those little pesky keys? I found a real handy way to do this ... by inserting a small screwdriver through the handle of the key and twisting it. It’s a lot quicker and much easier on my fingers. M. K. K. • • • • Dear Heloise: After planting my flower seeds this year, I saved the packets they all came in and will use them to store the new seeds I gather for next year’s planting. By putting them back in the original containers not only will they be easy to identify, but I will also have planting directions. Something we may forget from year to year. Mrs. Hayes Strike Bock At Red Agitators HONG KONG UPI—BriUsh authorities today struck back at Chinese Communist agitators by Imposing a stiff law against the Peking-inspired propaganda machine that has sparked rioting and strikes in the Crown Colony. The colony’s executive council passed a law Thursday making it a crime to put up Communist wall posters that criticize the govenunent.
