DAYS REMEMBRANCES Do you know that in the spring of 1919, amidst complete devastation, the Poppies bloomed in abundance on the battlefields of France, where so many of our men had fallen in battle, and that a replica of this poppy has become the Memorial Flower of Hie American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary ? A simple flower, ’tis true, But more— A symbol of that sacrifice Which made and kept us free. In Memory In loving memory of our husband and father, Virgil Lancaster who passed away May 25, 1965. He loved the world and all his friends, Rejoiced in field and stream The by-paths of his dreams No task he thought too much to do For those he loved, whose needs he knew. It is not given us to know just where they go. Or is heaver near or far away No man can say But there are times, we seem to hear Him whispering softly in our ear Don’t worry, I am very near. Sadly missed by Wife and Family.

Dear Home Lovers: Many of us have a kitchen window, a bathroom window, etc., that doesn’t have a good view. For instance, ktchen windows sometime look out on trash cans or alleys. Or perhaps you have other windows that you like to have light come through but don’t want people seeing in. Why not frost them? This will only cost you a few cents per window. Furthermore, it even saves washing those windows each month because the rain marks and the dust on the outside don’t show! Buy some Epsom salts. Get the smallest jar you possibly can because it’s going a long way when we dab our windows with it This should cost you about 25 cents. Pour about two heaping tablespoons in a saucer and add one tablespoon of beer to it This will foam. Let it set for at least 30 minutes. The salt crystals will partially dissolve. You will end up with a liquid that looks like absolutely nothing but it will make you an artist. And what an artist you’re going to be! Dip a piece of facial tissue into this liquid and wipe each window pane as if you were washng it. Then while it is still thoroughly wet, go back and dab, dob and pat the pane with the wet tissue. It’s going to look real messy. To get an artistic pattern, this is exactly what you want Hie most beautiful crystals will form on your window when it dries. Light still comes through from God’s sunshine, but you can’t see IN from the outside, and yet you can see OUT. Even the sun glare is reduced. The one thing I must caution you about is: Your window panes must be CLEAN. I recommend washing them with some ammonia water to remove all the carbon, then wiping dry with facial tissues. Don’t use a bath towel, a dish rag or a sponge because these contain a minute amount of grease or body oil. When you want to remove the crystals, ail you have to do is wash the window. Just plain water removes it. Give it a try. You’ll not only have fun doing it but you’ll love the beautiful designs and enjoy the privacy too! Heloise a a a a Dear Heloise: Often I run out of drawing paper for my children. So I bought an inexpensive
and thumb tacked it down. Now the children draw and color on this paper and love the idea. When one side is used, I just turn it over. Reader a o a a Dear Heloise: Please help! We had a problem of rust in our water and in doing the laundry all my clothes were stained yellow. I used a bleach to whiten but all too late. Discovered that I had set the stains. Is there anything I can do to remove the stain from my clothes? Emily Page Can anyone help Emily solve her problem? If so, please writs us in care of this paper. We’d love to hear from you. Heloise a a a a Dear Heloise: I discovered a marvelous substitute for cake coloring . . . flavored gelatin! I dissolved two teaspoons of strawberry gelatin in a bit of hot water one day when I ran out of cake coloring. Lo and behold, it not only made an excellent pink-colored icing but a fine-flavored one as well. C. Von Maluskl a u a a Letter of Thought Dear Heloise: When someone’s faults irritate me and I complain, my husband often gently reminds me that most of these same faults are also mine. 20 Years Married a o a a Dear Heloise: There have been many other suggestions for old placemats with foam-covered bottoms. 1 cut my mats in circles and use on my window sills under all my flower pots. They sure save my window sill paint Mrs. F. L.
