troublesome insects are cutworms and flea beetles. Cutworm usually do most oi tucir damage during the spring, although some species may also be troublesome at other times. They are often a major factor in stand reduction of corn. Flea beetles can retard growth and even kill small plants. The danger of damage from flea beetle* is more likely when growing conditions are poor. Toxaphene or carbaryl (Sevin) will do the job of controlling these two insects. Carbaryl is suggested for use on silage corn. For more Information you can ask for Publication E-48 at the County Extension Office.

Seed Som Maggot and Seed Corn Beetles—If a sptl insecticide la not used on corn land, it is good Insurance to treat the seed for protection against seed com beetle and seed com maggot. Two ounces of 50 per cent dieldrin seed treater per bushel of seed could be used.

1. Lead the jack of diamonds to the ace, return a club, and finesse the nine. Regardless of how the clubs are divided, you are now certain to make the contract. The purpose behind the finesse is to guard against a possible 4-1 or 5-0 division of clubs. If you neglected to finesse and attempted to run the clubs by cashing the A-K-Q, you might find yourself going down if you ran into an unlucky distribution of the adverse cards. The club finesse provides 100% safety against every possible distribution.

2. The one thing to fear la that South will shift to a low diamond after you've covered the jack of clubs with the queen and South has taken the ace. North may have the A-Q of diamonds and gobble up your K-J, or else you may guesa wrong in choosing whether to play the king or jack on tha diamond return. In either case, you would have to lose a spade trick eventually and go down one. However, there is a method of play that is practically sure to succeed. Duck the jack of clubs in dummy on the opening lead! (It is certainly reasonable to assume that South has the ace.) Regardless of what North plays next, draw trumps ending in dummy, and lead the king of clubs through South’s ace. This permits you to discard a diamond on one of dummy’s high clubs. All told, you lose a club, a diamond and a spade. (You can ruff the fourth spade in dummy if the suit is not divided evenly.) If South sees through your scheme and elects to overtake the jack of clubs at trick one, it does not help him one bit. In that case, dummy’s K-Q become tricks on which you can discard two spades.
