World War I Barracks 1994 and the Auxiliary met at the Legion Home Tuesday evening, May 2, with a carry-in dinner. Clarence O’Connor returned after the dinner meeting each held separate business meetings. The president, Mrs. Nina Gaston, called the meeting to order with twenty members present The pledge of allegiance to the flag of our country and the treasurer’s and secretary’s reports were given. Ibe reports from different committees were given. Cards were sent to six sick members. At the close of the meeting a white elephant sale was held which netted the Auxiliary |5.10. The meeting adjourned to meet June 8. Mrs. Christine Michael, Mrs. Melba Hal tom, Mrs. Edith Patterson, Mrs. Agnes Stwaley of the Cloverdale Heme Demonstration Club attended the
Achievement Day Program in Greencastle Tuesday. The American Legion Auxiliary of Post 281 will have their regular meeting at the Legion Home, May 15. All members are urged to attend. Mrs. Pauline Arendt is president The Fortnightly Club of Cloverdale held their annual Spring Luncheon, May 3, at the Yacht Club with Mrs. Taletha Ray presiding. Mrs. Frances Arnold and Mrs. Mildred Underwood were in charge of the program. Mrs. Mary Logan gave two readings, “One Jewel” and "Spring Song.” Three contests were given and the winners were, Mrs. LaRue Gray, Mrs. Roxie Pickens and Mrs. Mildred Underwood. Mrs. Nannie Feltx, who has been sick for acme time has been seriously ill the past week. The Cloverdale Methodist Church W8CS is sponsoring an all church fellowship at the Community Building at 7:S0 p. m. Saturday, May IS. There will be a special Mother’s Day program and light refreshments. Everyone is urged to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Query of Beech Grove were guests of his mother, Mrs. Eliza Query. Mias Leona Cooper was a caller Sunday afternoon. Also Mr. and Mrs. Fred Forbis, Darla and Dawn were guests. Mrs. Nona Frazier was a caller on Friday evening. Mm. Esther Fry visited Sunday and Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sachary of Ladoga. Bom to Private First Otoss and Mrs. Stanley L. Curtis, a son, Brian Nathan of
Qennany. Grandmothers of the | grandson are Mrs. Jean Curtis and Mrs. Pauline Runnells of Cloverdale. Mrs. LaRue Gray’and Mrs. Keith Gaddis and daughter, spent the day Monday with Mrs. Betty Williams. Mrs. Pauline Runnells spent the weekend with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bernhardt and family of Indianapolis. Mrs. Opal Griffith of Poland and Mrs. Lou Eggers were in Brasil Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Gerturde Mann returned home from the Putnam County Hospital Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Mary Logan, Mrs. Maude Farmer and Mrs. Esther Fry were in Greencastle Thursday afternoon calling on the sick at the Putnam County Hospital. They reported that Mrs. Lelia McCoy is improving and Mrs. Trixie Mann is slowly improving tea Mrs. Earl Arnold, Mrs. Ennis Jordan and Mm. Herbert Ray were in Indianapolis shopping Friday. Mrs. Mamie Bockius, Mrs. Colleen Parker and Mrs. Stella Vickroy attended their club meeting at the home of Mrs. Elma Lewis near Eminence Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Arnold
were in Patricksburg, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Goss and son Jefferey of Martinsville visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arendt and Nancy. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Furr and son were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Furr Friday evening. Misses Phyliss Furr, Linda Lindley, Cathy McCullough were home over the weekend from Indiana State. Mr. and Mrs. Lunic Lewis, Mrs. Belle Lasley, Mrs. Mary Hurst, Mrs. Dorothy Rice were in Indianapolis at the West Tenth Street Veterans Hospital Monday evening attending the Award Night program for those who had given volunteer service. Mrs. Belle Lasley received her certificate of 100 hours volunteer service.
Gov. Bronigin To Fill Judgeships INDIANAPOLIS UPI—Statehouse sources reported that Governor Branigin soon will fill two vacant municipal judgeships. One of the appointments is at Hartford City where Keith Rees, Democratic nominees for the elective office, is scheduled to be named immediately to the
office, succeeding Francis Schweier, who resigned March 31. The other is at Rensselaer, where William J. Moriarty, Jr., Republican nominee for the office, is scheduled to be appointed. The office has been vacant about a year. Moriarty has no Democratic opponent for the fall election.
