D. •V.. • • • LETTER OF LAUGHTER ♦Dear Heloise: Here’s a quick, easy trick I picked up for making cookies: When a cookie recipe states “drop by the teaspoon,’’ I find that the large end of a melon Tjcoop does the job very neatly. Just grease the scoop lightly "Before you start, then dip into flour each time you take some dough. Tap the scoop on the ' edge of the cookie sheet and you have a nice round ball to ..decorate or to flatten into a neat circle with a fork. The job is done in minutes * without that scraping and push- * ing with a knife and spoon.

Dear Heloise: I would like to pass this idea on to folks who have home delivery of milk in bottles. It takes the guessing out of which milk is the fresher. Remove the outer bottle cap from the bottles in the refrigerator before you put the fresh milk in. By doing this you don’t guess which milk is the fresher. You can tell at a glance. No more wasting milk and money by having the bottle in the back going sour. Hazel McKenna • * • Dear Heloise: When I have to machine sew a small patch on a trouser pocket, I’ve found if I rip the bottom apart, it’s easier to get the patch on. Then I just sew the pocket together again. Gertrude Hutt • * • Dear Heloise: I use two mops when mopping floors . . . one for the cleaning solution and the other for rins-

ing.

Saves a lot of time and effort by not having to rinse a dirty mop every section. Mrs. Ventura

—Wallace The stocky, ex-governor retired to the wings of the stage once, muttering “I’m not worried for myself. I just don’t want any of them to get hurt.” Members of the Afro-Ameri-can Council led the opposition from the audience. Several members stood up and heckled Wallace. The Council members, all unidentified, led about 40 students, most of them white, from the hall about 35 minutes after Wallace started talking. They touched off fighting in the aisles when they tried to re-enter the building. Several hecklers carried signs or banners. One sign read “Help ; mental illness — Wallace for President” and another read j "Wallace Killed My Brothers.”

Mussel Men

INDIANAPOLIS UPI—Indiana mussel pickers are going to have to go back to muscle power after May 16. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Wednesday issued an order restricting the harvesting of the fresh water clams to hand methods—no mechanical devices to be used.

For quick chowder using pantry shelf provisions, heat in one pan: butter-cooked onion, condensed cream of potato soup, milk or cream, canned crabmeat with tendons removed, sherry and about % teaspoon of sugar.

—U.S. Marines died supplies and evacuating the dead and wounded, Walt said. The Marine actions blocked North Vietnamese attempts to cut off the Leatherneck bastion at the Khe San and batter it with mortars from surrounding hills. To the east, toward the South China Sea, small Communist bands killed four leathernecks and wounded 12 in harrying mortar and small arms raids. The Communists, possibly showing their fury at losing the hills that command invasion routes from the north, stormed into a Vietnamese village, killed two civilians and wounded 20 and put 130 houses to the torch.
