DPU invitational meet went by the boards and one more meet record was tied. Two more marks, both held by high school relay teams, were blotted out by a pair of fine efforts by Greencastle High School relay teams who participated in a three-school exhibition run. The Tiger Cubs established new high school marks in the mile relay (3:34.6) and the half mile relay (1:34.2) Members of the mile team were Kevin See, Jim Craig, Pete Norris and Larry Boswell. The half mile team included Ray Churchill, Louie Luzar, David Moore and Jim Craig. Ball State claimed the team championship in the 16-team meet that drew over 350 col-

John Kerr, with a 4:16.7, clipped :02.2 off the mile, and Ken Sparks trimmed down the 880-yard run mark from 1:55.6 to 1:53. Only nonBall State record was Fred Bamble’s 6-4 leap in the high jump. His 6-8 last year is the prevailing stadium mark. Indiana State, which will come to Greencastle tomorrow (Tuesday) for a dual vanity and frosh meet, aet two stadium and meet records. Larry Vaught won the 440- intermediate hurdles in :54.6 and Mika Hanna

Bailed over the pole vault stick at 16-6. The previous marks in these events were :55.5 and 15-1. Other new stadium records were in the discus where AllAmerican basketball player Wesley Unseld of Louisville threw 162-10%, Adeyemi Wilson of Washington leaped 456% in the triple jump and Purdue smashed the mile relay ■ time of 3:21, set in 1955, with a clocking of 3:18.1. DePauw finished a close second in the mile relay in 3:18.9. Besides the new stadium records, which also provided new meet records, the three remaining new meet marks were established by Richard Gygi of Taylor in the 440 yard dash (:50.2), Ed Henry of Vincennes in the hoard jump (22-8), and by Gary Dennis of Taylor in the javelin (201-2%). One meet record tied was the high hurdles in which Tom Thomson of Purdue equalled the :14.8 standard set last year. Beyond the four points DePauw picked up in the mile relay, the Tigers added a fifth in the 440-yard relay, third and fifth by Rick Jordan and Bruce Fox in the 440-yard dash, fifth by Ted Fergus in the 120-yard high hurdles, and fourth by Jordan in the 220-yard dash.

DePauw athletic teams came out on top in weekend tennis, golf and one half of a freshman baseball doubleheader in a Saturday jammed with sports activity on the homefront. Possibly the most surprising development was DePauw’s sweep of a quadrangular golf match at Windy Hill where the Tigers disposed of Indiana State, Valparaiso and St. Jo-
seph’s.
Randy Reifers and Mike Laird led DePauw’s fivesome with matching 74s that captured medalist honors. Dan Quayle turned in a 76 and Bruce Spang got a 78. Bill Schmaltz skied to a 90, but his teammates had done ample damage. DePauw defeated Indiana State 8-7, Valpariso 11-4, and St. Joseph’s 10-5. Today Butler and Wabash come to Greencastle for more golf activity. Limiting each match to two sets, DePauw’s tennis team drubbed Valparaiso. 9-0. The victory upped the winners’ season record to 3-4 with a Wednesday match scheduled at St. Joseph’s. In order of play Buzzie Pierce won 6-4, 6-1, Carl Hirth won 6-2, 6-1, Paul Mitchell won 6-1, 6-1, Rob Morrison won 6-2, 6-3, and number five man Pete
Thompson won 6-0, 610. Pierce and Mitchell won number one double 6-2, 6-1, and Hirth and Morrison teamed up to take number two doubles 6-1, 6-1. St. Joseph’s and DePauw split a doubleheader in baseball action at Blackstock. The Tiger frosh won the opener 2-1 behind the two-hit pitching of Stuart Sharp, but lost the nightcap, 5-1. Mickey Schramm was the losing pitcher in the finale.
Big blow in the opening win was a two-man on double by Mike Scalzo in the bottom of the fifth when the little Tiger* trailed 1-0. Scalzo chased in Jack Lazenga and Dick Tharpe with his slap to center. This afternoon the varsity team is scheduled to make up a postponed doubleheader at Butler. Wabash will be here for a single game Wednesday at 3:30 p. m.
