By K. C. THALER LONDON UPI—Cuba’s Fidel Castro, who last year virtually broke with Red China, is now at odds with the Soviet Union. The Cuban revolutionary believes he has been let down by the Kremlin, which prefers to deal with the non-Communist regimes of Latin American countries that Havana is trying to overthrow. Angry with both Peking and
Moscow, Castro is now out to chart a course independent of both the Communist giants. The “Castro doctrine” wants complete freedom in the ideological and political fields Its aim is to subvert Latin American nations by backing actively the so-called liberation movements, while determining what is good for Cuba, unhampered by any outside Communist influence.
In a sharp attack, ostensibly directed against Moscow, Castro reproached the Kremlin by implication for hobnobbing with the “oligarchy governments” of Latin American countries and thereby helping to suppress revolution throughout the continent. “Whoever helps those oligarchies which are fighting the guerrillas also is helping to suppress the revolution, because the revolution is not only fought with arms but also with economic credit,” he said, hitting out against Soviet economic cooperation with some of the Latin American governments. “We will be a satellite of no
one, ideologically, internally or externally,” Castro proclaimed. The Cuban leader has been playing it hot and cold in recent times. He flirted for awhile with Red China whose policy of support to wars of liberation appealed to Castro’s own idea of stirring up trouble in the continent. Last year he fell out with the Peking regime and violently attacked it for trying to interfere in Cuban affairs. He is no I longer on speaking terms with i Mao Tse-tung. Before the clash he had won a new agreement with Moscow for stepped up aid without which his regime probably could not survive.
Soviet aid to Cuba is estimated at more than $1 million a day, in the form of food, machinery, tractors and raw materials, in addition to technical and expert advice. Castro’s armory is virtually all of Soviet make, from guns and ships to planes and rockets. Moscow has been quietly I swallowing the insults from Havana, and only last month signed a new trade agreement which provides a 23 per cent increase in the current year. On the other hand Castro himself is undoubtedly aware that he cannot afford to lose this support from Moscow. Even if he tried to turn back to Peking, he can get nothing com-
parable from Impoverished Red China. The Castro blast against the Kremlin therefore, is not likely to go much farther at present. There are indications that Cuba’s Communists are divided among themselves, into a left and right wing. A party congress is in preparation for late this year. Castro apparently is in the process of clearing the decks for it.

Scouts Volunteer To Clean Beach VALPARAISO, Ind. UPI - About 3,000 youths have volun
teered to clean up a beach instead of littering it. The word came from the headquarters of the Calumet Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Officials had asked for volunteers to work at cleaning up Dunes State Park Saturday, preparatory to its opening. The most heavily used portion of the park is its Lake Michigan beach. The council officials had expected that they might get about 300 boys to volunteer giving up the last Saturday of their vacation — but instead they got
3,000 signatures. The Scouts are from Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties in Indiana and Cook County in Illinois. Dunes Park Supt. William Svesvtic will direct the major clean - up program

West leads the eight of clubi, and dummy wins with the queen. You have 11 easy tricks and must try to make your slam by winning a trick with the queen of hearts or the king of diamonds. Which should you try first? If you try the heart finesse first, you risk losing a heart and a diamond. If you lead diamonds first, you risk an immediate lose of two diamond trick*. You can play for both suits if you make the correct preparatory plays. Draw trumps with the queen and jack and then clear the ace and king of clubs out of the way. Get to your hand with a trump and lead the jack of clubs to discard the three of diamonds from the dummy. BACK TO DUMMY Lead a trump back to dummy and return the jack of diamonds through East If East has the ace of diamonds he is almost sure to play it when the singleton jack is led from dummy. Is East plays low, let dummy’s jack ride In the hope that it will force out the ace. You will be home if the ace of diamonds Is played because you can later discard one of dummy’s hearts on the king of diamonds. Is East covers the jack of diamonds with the queen, you play the king and lose to the ace. West returns a diamond and dummy ruff (thanks to your early play). Now you can lead a heart from dummy and try a finesse with the queen. You will make the slam If you can develop a trick in either of the red suits. Wall Street Chatter NEW YORK UPI — Purcell, Graham A Co. says the bull market, now in its fifth month, still seems to be in full force without a sign it is running out of steam or approaching an end. The company feels a little back and filling may be necessary at the present time, but would not change its policy of remaining fully invested and making use of investment leverage where warranted.
Goodby A Co. says the possibility of a business recovery later in the year should favor a higher trend in stock prices but that a major advance is likely to be held off until the severity and duration of the current economic adjustment can be more clearly defined. The company believes near term market optimism should be tempered — with some caution.
