Whole Family Interested In Work At Expo 67

By ROBERTA ROESCH “THE ONLY way a woman can handle a job such as mine is to get her whole family interested in her work,” says Mrs. Yvonne Morissette of Montreal, Canada. Mrs. Morissette made this statement as she showed me some coming attractions at al-

most-complete Expo 67, the world exhibition that will celebrate Canada’s 10th birthday and the 325th anniversary of the founding of Montreal when it opens on April 28th. Challenging Assignment The job to which Mrs. Morissette referred as we talked at the site of the fair was her

current challenging assignment: disseminating and coordinating in French all the news of Expo 67 that goes out to writers for French publications. “I say that family interest is essential for handling a job like mine,” she explained, 'because I’m either working at Expo or dreaming about it all the time.

“But that’s all right at my house because everyone is excited about the exhibition. Since my husband is a journalist he wants to know what is going on.

“My son, who is 15 and attending school, also likes the idea that when I come home from work at night I have

something to talk about that nobody knows as yet” Doable Question “When did you get involved with the fair and how did you land your job?” I asked. “I started with Expo in 1964,” Mrs. Morissette said, “and I got the job because I’ve always been a bilingual person. Fluency in two languages is highly essential in my job since I have to work in French and English in everything I do.

“In addition, I had always been a journalist My working experience included a stint of doing the woman’s page for a paper my husband edited plus working on a weekly paper. I

worked two days at the office for the weekly and the rest of the time at home. “When I was approached by Expo, I felt I could get away from my work for the time I would be involved with the exposition. This was a contributing factor since the people who were planning Expo needed experienced personnel who could leave their jobs for the duration.

Made It Her Business “But I feel the biggest reason I got my present job,” she said, “was because, when I worked with my husband, I made it my business to learn to do everything connected with

putting out the news. That helped immeasurably.

“It has always been my experience,” Mrs. Morissette said, “that when a woman takes advantage of opportunities t o learn in every job she often gets a future chance to move on to a bigger position.”
