IBM WEDNESDAY NIGHT MIXED LEAGUE
The untried, unproven, and undefeated Post Office Mail Carriers (first time out) have challenged the high-flying Police Department (1-0) to a basketball game at 7:30 pm. Tuesday in the High School Gym. The Mail Carriers have served notice with their two coaches. Wendell Brattain and Carl Torr, that have never lost a
game (first time they have Putnam Realty
ever coached) and the experience gained by tossing mail sacks, has well qualified them to end the reign of the proud
and talented policemen.
Mentally, Brattain said his boys were ready. “This is an opportunity to get even for all
those parking tickets.”

Winds Up As Hero Of Game It’s not often that Larry Siegfried winds up as the hero of a basketball doubleheader in which Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain are playing. But it happened Friday night when Siegfried scored 29 points to lead the Celtics to a 111-104 victory over the Cincinnati Royals in the second game of a doubleheader at Boston. Siegfried’s performance overshadowed an 11-point performance by Russell and a 19-point effort by Chamberlain even though Wilt’s Philadelphia 76ers downed the Detroit Pistons 129-103. The Celtics trailed by eight points at halftime but Siegfried led two second-half drives that enabled them to clinch the victory. Oscar Robertson led the Royals with 26 points. Hal Greer scored 23 points to lead the 76ers, who had a 34point lead at the end of the first period, to their easy victory over the Pistons. John Tresvant scored 19 points for the Pistons Jerry West’s 34 points paced the Los Angeles Lakers to a 138-132 win over the New York Knicks in the other Friday night game. Walt Bellamy had 29 for the Knicks.
Racing Luck To Be Big Factor ARCADIA, Calif. UPI — Racing luck was expected to be a major factor today in the 30th running of the 3100,000 added Santa Anita Derby as a field of 13 colts awaited the start of the top winter race for 3-year-olds in the West. But there were many who put their trust in the successful team of jockey Willie Shoemaker and trainer Charles Whittingham to continue their string of victories which have featured the current meeting.
ing 57-28 margin over young Pointers. And the young Cubs did It with the same strategy as the varsity Cubs tried to use. The full-court zone press. Whereas it failed in the finals of the sectional, it worked to perfection last night. Time and time again the young Cubs took the ball away from the Young Pointers for unmolested lay-ins. The outcome of the game wa» settMd by the end of the first quarter as the victors had rolled into a 16-6 edge. During the second quarter, the press was so effective the Pointers could score only two points, and the victors headed into the dressing room, with a commanding 31-8 advantage. Subbing freely, but still keeping the pressure on, Cach Dick Crawley’s crew was home free by the end of the third stanza,
47-19.
Both coaches cleared the bench in the fourth quarter with the young Cubs picking up ten points and the losers tally-
ing nine.
Bob Troyer, brother of scoring ace Mike Troyer, paced the Young Cubs to victory with 15 points. He received able assistance from Scott Loring at 11 and Gary Gram with 10. Top point getter for the losers was Greg Evans with 11. Greencastle (57) FG FT PF
