Win Trick Doubly To Take Finesse By Alfred Sheinwold You win the right to lead by winning the previous trick, and •this right may be more precious than the trick that earned it for you. In fact, sometimes you win a trick that already belongs to your side for the sole purpose of leading to the next trick from the right direction. West led the ten of clubs, and ■South won with the king. Declarer cashed the ace of spades and continued with the queen of spades, hoping to establish the -suit with the help of dummy’s . trumps South was in luck, since West had to play the king of spades. Declarer ruffed in dummy and led the jack of hearts for a finesse. West won with the king Of hearts and led another club to South's ace. I. NEEDS FINESSE Now South would lose a second trump trick if he led trumps out of his own hand. He could make his contract only if he could get to dummy and lead a trump for a second trump finesse. South led a high spade, and West discarded a diamond. Declarer ruffed his high spade in dummy, knowing that this Would not increase the number of epade tricks. The important thing was to get the lead in ftanmyk

Now declarer could lead another trump from dummy for a finesse. When this succeeded, South could ruff a diamond and draw the last trumps with the ace. (It would have been better play to ruff both spades with high trumps, leaving dummy with the seven of trumps for the second trump finesse.) The rest was easy. DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with two spades (forcing to game), and the next player passes. You hold: S-8 7 4 3 2; H-Q 5 4; DA 9 8; C16 3. What do you say? Answer: Bid two notrump. You can show the spade support later, but your first duty is to show the weakness of your hand by way of a negative response. You would raise to three spades at once if your queen of hearts were changed to the king of hearts.

In Memory
Jurich—In loving memory of my mother, Vivian Ruby Jurich, who passed away, March 4, 1964. God saw you getting weary and He did what he thought best, He put his arms around you and whispered, come and rest. The golden gates did open three years ago today and with Farewells unspoken, you gently passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Oran Keene and Sons.
