OBITUARIES

Mrs. Clendening Rites Wednesday Mrs. Farrell Clendening, 71, Indianapolis, former resident of Quincy, died Sunday morning at the University Heights Hospital in Indianapolis. She was bom in Owen County, October 25, 1895, the daughter of Leslie and Ida Gray Dakin. She was a member of the Quincy Baptist Church, the Quincy Eastern Star and the I.U. Alumni Association. She had taught school in cities around the state. Survivors are three daughters, Jean Dawes, Pat Wampler and Margaret Lutey, all of Indianapolis; one son, Sonny Clendening, Greenwood, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, in 1966. Funeral services will be held from the family residence In Quincy, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale this evening and at the family residence in Quincy after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Suffers Fatal Seizure At Game Mrs. Freeda Spencer, 47, Eminence, suffered a heart attack Saturday evening in the Eminence gym and was dead on arrival at the Putnam County Hospital. She was born in Morgan County, April 26, 1919, the daughter of Orville and Faye Baldwin Patton. She was a member ot the Eminence Baptist Church. Survivors are: one son, Donald Spencer, Coatesville, her mother, Faye Hancock, and one grandson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Eminence Baptist Church. Rev. Dewey Groover will officiate. Interment will be in the Mannan Cemetery. Friends may call at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale. Services Tuesday For Lola Summers Mrs. Lola Maud Summers, 80, Parkersburg, died Saturday at her residence after an extended illness. She was bom Dec. 13, 1886, in Hendricks County, the daughter of John and Nan Payne. She was married to John Summers and was a member of the Parkersburg Christian Church. Survivors are: her husband, John; one granddaughter, Gloria Ann Poynts; grandson-in-law; a great grandson; two great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, and one daughter, Elsie Ryan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Perkins Funeral Home in Roachdale. Ray Britton will officiate. Interment will be in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home in Roachdale. Former Putnam Resident Dies Georgeann Wright, 86, died Friday morning in Ames, Iowa. She was bom in Putnam County but had lived in Crawfordsville before moving to Iowa to live with a daughter. Funeral services will be held at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsvillt on Tuesday at 10:30 a. m. with burial in The Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfords villa.

Robert Mitchell Dies In Florida Mrs. James Terry has received word of the death of Robert Mitchell, who was the husband of Ollie Terry Heaney. Mr. Mitchell died Saturday morning at his home at 3010 S. W. 62nd Ave., Hollywood Flrida. Services were held today in Hollywood. Rev. Russell Rice Rites Tuesday Rev. Russell Rice, Paoli, Pa. died Friday evening, Feb. 10, after an extended illness. Rev. Rice, a DePauw graduate, was a former minister at Union Chapel Church and at Bellmore Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Paoli. Roachdale Rites For Infant Boy Scott Franklin King, age years, died Saturday at the Riley Hospital In Indianapolis. He was bom June 12, 1965 in Greencastle, the son of Donald and Patsy Joan King. He Is survived by his parents; one sister, Kelly; one brother, Donnie; two half brothers, Kevin and Kim Bonifacious; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Scott, Roachdale, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar King, Greencastle; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Gibbs, Bainbridge; a great grandfather, Walter Gibbs, Greencastle. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Perkins Funeral Home in Roachdale. Rev. Homer Cochran will have charge of the service. Interment will be in Roachdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Roachdale.

Mrs. Edna Wilson’s Birthday Celebrated On Wednesday evening, Feb., 8, the children of Mrs. Edna Wilson came with well filled baskets of food for the evening meal in celebration of “grandmaw’s” 81st birthday. Those present were; Randell, at home, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Blacketer Tommy Clearance, Marta, of Mecca, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Myers, Lora Jane, of Roachdale, Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Royal, of Lafayette. Other children who were unable to be present were; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon DeRoy, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Barbour, of Lafayette. Other guests present were; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cooper and daughter, Christine, and a friend of Phoenix, Ariz. Mrs. Cooper is the daughter of Thomas Blacketer and Christine is a great-granddaughter.

Wilma Procter Hostess To Young Mother’s Club Wilma Proctor was hostess to the Young Mothers Study Club Feb. 1, with fourteen members and four guests present. Mrs. Albert Eppelheimer, the guest speaker for the evening, was introduced and gave a very interesting talk on draperies. Carolyn Fowler, president, opened the business meeting. Roll call was answered by everyone showing a baby picture of herself. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. The new program books were discussed and it was decided to have a rummage sale A few more members joined the Hospital Cheer Guild. The meeting was then adjourned and delicious refreshments were served by the hostess, and co-hostess Lulu Proctor. The door prize was won by Mary Vanlandingham.

Mrs. Roscoe White Is Club Hostess The Clinton-Madison Friendly Club met Feb. 9, with Mrs. Roscoe White. Meeting was opened in the usual manner by the president, Mrs. Ray Clodfelter. There were twelve members and two guests, Mrs. David Thomas and Mrs. Jess Vermillion, present. Minutes of last meeting and treasurer’s report were read and approved. A letter concerning water and air pollution, from Mrs. Fortner was read by Mrs. Russell O’Haver. Mrs. Glen Gosnell gave a very interesting report on food trends. She told of food distribution, changes in preservation, controls, inspection, etc. Discussion by members followed. There was a home made Valentine exchange with Mrs. Willard Miller’s being judged the best. Club closed with prayer after which the hostess served delicious refreshments. A bake sale was held with Mrs. Vem Sigler, auctioneer. Next meeting to be March 9 with Mrs. George Frank.

Meeting Is Held By Jefferson Belles The Jefferson Belles met Feb. 6, at the home of Evelyn Goodpaster. Wanda Williams brought Maggie Kilgore as a guest The meeting was opened by all saying “The Pledge of Allegiance” and the “Club Creed.” The song of the month was “I Would be True.” Eleven members answered roll call with where they would like to take a vacation this year. The majority just wanted to get away to a quiet place. Our lesson, Swedish Weaving, was given by Betty Phillips and Loretta Tharp. Every member present learned how to Swedish Weave and we all enjoyed the lesson. Prizes were won by Alice Hacker and Wilma Williams. We had a comic Valentine and 25 cent gift exchange. At the end of the meeting, Maggie Kilgore decided to join the club, bringing the membership to thirteen. Refreshments were Angel Food cake, coffee and Kool-Aid which were very delicious.
