Presents Property Tax Relief Bill INDIANAPOLIS UPI — The Indiana Senate has received a bill which would divert about half of the revenue from the 2 per cent sales tax for distribution to counties, cities and towns for property tax relief begining July 1, 1969. Sen. Eugene Bainbridge, DMunster, the author, said the revenue would total about $120 million a year. It would be dis tributed on a population basis.
ASPHALT PAVED Driveways and Parking Lots McMAHAN CONSTRUCTION CO. For Estimates Call P. G. EVANS REAL ESTATE OL 3-6509 Graancastla
Cities and towns would receive a per capita share and the counties would keep the remainder, all income to go into the general funds of the governmental units. “This may be the only prop* erty tax relief we get freon thi* session of the legislature,** Bainbridge said. “It has built-in insurance against financial trouble. If we are in a recession when the 1969 Legislature meets, then this law could be repealed.” Distribution would be made by the state on a quarterly basis, and the revenue locally would enable the units to reduce property tax rates.
