"My mission is to educate every woman in the world to the fact that die can own a precious Jewel,” said Barbara who works with diamonds, cultured pearls, natural pearls, emeralds, topazes and fine metals. Her jewelry designs have won her awards here and abroad. ‘T want every woman to know," she said, "that there’s something available tp her in a beautiful metal and gem at every possible price range.” Happy Accident As a jewelry designer, Barbara Anton, of Leonia, N. J„ found her job opportunity through happy accident. “In college, I studied art,” she said, “and I always continued to study it, even though I never actually planned to have a career in it” However, Barbara married a Jeweler, and soon some of her husband’s customers began asking her to design jewels for them. “They always wanted something unusual," she explained, "so their requests got me started. I got into the field more deeply when I enrolled in courses In gemology. Finally, I

Leaves Letters Up To Jackie WASHINGTON UPI — President Johnson is leaving it entirely up to Mrs. John F. Kennedy whether letters he wrote to her or their children will be published. Free* Secretary George Christian was asked Tuesday about a stipulation in the agreement ending the former First Lady’s lawsuit against author William Manchester. Hie provision said that letters to her and her family from President Johnson win not be published without his consent. ‘The President doesn't know which letters are involved," Christian said. "He is content to leave entirely to Mrs. Kennedy the question of publication of any letters he has written to her and he will willingly abide by her judgment” Christian also reaffirmed the position Johnson took last month when the furor over the Manchester book, “Hie Death of a President” reached a highpoint "The President does not intend to express any views or opinions on the subject" he

said.

Johnson wrote the Kennedy children, Caroline and John Jr., personal letters after their father’s assassination. The contents have never been disclosed. Representatives of the Kennedy family in settlement of the book dispute said there was no objection to the contents of Johnson’s letters. “In fact they are friendly and kindly,” one source said. "But we insist that the President should approve them before publication."

In addition to her major commissions, Barbara designs a great deal of jewelry for private individuals. “The requests I receive are as varied as the people who make them,” she said. “Once, for example, I received a rush call for a gold and diamond sling to hold a wrist that was broken in a ski mishap. The Jewelry design I delivered created such a sensation, my client told me she wouldn’t mind breaking her other wrist.” Clear Determination "Fine jewelry Is eternal,” Barbara said, “and Pm so determined to make that clear to everyone that one of my friends always says to me: ’Anyone as far out as you on a mission shouldn’t be a jewelry designer. You should be an astronaut’.”

Cong Hideaway Mass Of Flames SAIGON UPI — U. S. BS2 bombers turned a Viet Cong hideaway into a mass of raging flames today with a rare firebomb attack that engulfed 18square miles of jungle northeast of Saigon. U. S. military spokesmen said the strategic bombers dropped tons of the World War II incendiary bombs into the southeast comer of the Communist War Zone D—on the fringe of the Iron Triangle. A huge sea of flames spread through the foliage as the B52s flying high above the clouds struck in wave after wave. A helicopter observer reported: “It looks like the Fourth of

July.”

Military sources indicated that the raids—about 32 miles northeast of Saigon—were designed to wipe out concentrations of Communist troops who fled into the area when U. S. and Vietnamese forces launched the war’s biggest campaign in the Iron Triangle last week. Spokesmen said officially, however, that the purpose was to “deny the area to the enemy.” Firebombs have been used only rarely in the Vietnam War, spokesmen said.

Political Chaos Confronts Chile SANTIAGO, Chile UPI — Chile was plunged into political confusion today by the senate’s refusal to allow President Eduardo Frei to visit the United States next month. A combination of causes, antiAmericanism foremost among them, brought extreme leftists and rightists together in the move to ban Frei’s visit. The vote was 23-15. Political insiders said one thing was certain: Frei would seek revenge with every means at his disposal tor the humiliating blow. Under the nation’s constitution, the senate plays an important role in foreign policy making and its approval is necessary before the President may leave the country on a policy matter. It had never In history denied this approval. Well-informed sources said the radicals possibly would be the first and most vulnerable target of Frei’s revenge. They said he may plan a purge of the nation’s bureaucracy, where the radicals have much of their strength because of porkbarrelling during the years when they were in power, iv’a

Good Resolutions Are Not Enough By Alfred Sheinwold It isn’t enough to make good resolutions near the beginning of a year; you must also improve your luck. East took the king of hearts and shifted to the queen of diamonds. This was very unlucky for South. If East had led any other suit South would have made his contract without the slightest trouble. South won with the king of diamonds and led a trump to force out the ace. The bad luck continued, for East returned the jack of diamonds. Declarer won in dummy with the ace of diamonds, drew another round of trumps and then started the clubs. West took the ace of clubs and produced a diamond. The defenders thus took a trick in each suit, defeating the contract. It was unlucky for South, but even imluckier for North. It’s very unlucky to have a partner who throws away an unbeatable contract. See Danger South should see the danger when East shifts to diamonds at the second trick. Declarer must lead clubs at once instead of wasting time with a round of trumps. West takes the ace of clubs and leads a diamond to dum my’s ace. Now declarer tries to run the clubs to get rid of his losing diamond. East ruffs the third club with his low trump, and South over-ruffs. South gets to dummy by ruffing a heart and leads another club, nils time East can not prevent the discard. East ruffs with the ace of trumps.
