Putnam County fans will have the pleasure of watching a rematch of the “game of the year” as Cloverdaie and Bainbridge will square off in the . second game of the Putnam County tourney, Friday night, 11 January 20 at 8:15 in the Up- . town Gym at Greencastle.

Banner Will Sponsor "You Guess It" Contest Above is a diagram of the schedule of the Putnam County Basketball Tournament that is to be played January 20 and 21. This year the Banner is again sponsoring the “You Guess It Contest” where f««« get a chance to win prize money for the most correct entry. First prize of 510 will go to the entry that Is: (1) Postmarked the earliest (2) Contains the correct prediction of game winners and total number of points for the tourney. The second place prize of $5 will be awarded to the entry that Is: (1) Postmarked the earliest (2) Gives the most accurate scores for every game played. Greencastle, Fillmore Grade Teams Split Two Games
Splitting Into an "A" and "B” team, the Greencastle 7th grade split a pair of games with Fillmore. The Greencastle *B’ squad defeated Fillmore’s 7th grade tesm, 80-26. State Game Will Decide Leader CHICAGO UPX—Either Iowa or Michigan State will step into a share of the Big Ten basketball lead with Northwestern Saturday, and conversely one of them will fall out of title contention—at least temporarily. The Hawkeyes and Spartans each take a 1-0 conference record into action against each other on the Michigan State court, and the Hawkeyes, boasting a seven-game winning streak, were a 7-point favorite Ohio State, the only other team unbeaten in Big Ten play with a 1-0 record, was a 5-point pick at home to down Indiana. Thus the Buckeyes also have a chance to move into a share of the lead with Northwestern, which whipped Illinois Tuesday for temporary first place with a 2-0 mark. The Wildcats and Wisconsin are idle Saturday. Two second division teams meet in the afternoon television game when Michigan plays at Illinois. The Wolverines have yet to win a conference gams, losing to both Northwestern and Wisconsin, and have a 6-6 season mark, while liiinnu with a 7-4 season mark, has baa ten Wisconsin and lost to Michigan State and Northwestern in the conference. Illinois was a 9point favorite. Purdue and Minnesota each seek their first league win in a night game on the Gopher court for wihch Minnesota was a 4point pick. Purdue, though, has a 6-3 season record, compared with 4-8 for the Gophers. Min, nesota has lost to Ohio State and Indiana and Purdue was beaten by Wisconsin in Big Ten play.
