Cubs Claw Cascade Cadets, 103 To 71
Jim Craig: and Mike Troyer went on a scoring: spree the third quarter and paced the Tiger Cubs to a 103-71 victory over the Cascade Cadets. In the torrid third quarter, Craig banged in 16 points and Troyer was right behind with 14. For the night Troyer finished with 39 markers, and Craig chipped in with 20. In the first half of the contest, the Cadets, aroused by the fine shooting of George York, had an upset in mind. The Cubs took an early 10 to 4 lead, and at the 4:14 mark were on top 15-10. But the Cadets reeled off 5 quick points and at the 2:40 mark, tied the
score.
The Cubs trailed at the end of the quarter 26-24, and it wasn’t until the last three minutes of the second quarter that the Cubs, on the scoring of Troyer and John New, tallied eight consecutive points for a 42-35 halftime bulge. During the first half, the Cubs’ defense was something to be desired but Coach McCracken must have perked them up during the halftime break, as when the second half started, an entirely different club took
to the floor.
With the leaky defense plugged, the Cubs limited Cascade to two field gols in the first four minutes of the third quarter and with Troyer and Craig popping the 15 foot jumpers, the Cubs roared to a 19 point spread and their 10th victory
in 12 starts.
Hitting 13 field goals in 21 tries the third quarter helped the Cubs as a team to a .447 shooting night, sinking 38 buckets in 85 attempts. Pete Norris was the top rebounder as he gathered in 24
missed shots.

sent three men to the boards, and the other two down court and caught the Hawks flatfooted in grabbing a 25 to 14 first quarter lead. Controlling the boards, and shooting at a 48 per cent clip, the Pointers coasted to their 13th win in 14 starts. Ron Rossok was high for the game with 14 field goals and three free tosses. Roachdale tried to tame the Pointers with a zone, but Rossok sneaked behind the defense for base line shots. Martin was next high for the Pointers with 22, followed by Larry Steele with 19. Ron Simpson was the top point getter for the Hawks with 28 big points, but his teammates were well contained by the Bainbridge defense. Next action for the Pointers is January 13 when they travel to Montezuma. Roachdale plays again tonight with Waveland as the opposition.
