(By Bernard Brenner) WASHING rT 'ON U PI — Spokesmen for a $20-biUion-a-year farm industry are concerned about the prospects for credit in 1967. Kenneth D. Naden, executive vice president of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, said the credit outlook will be given high priority in the council’s annual meeting Jan. 17. Naden said the growing amount o? operating capital needed in today's commercial agriculture makes adequate I credit a vital need for farmers. and their co-ops. “The present tight money squeeze is affecting agricultural' credit the same as it is affecting credit available for other industries,” he sa d. As a result, Naden said, the ^ council plans a review of the credit outlook for the year ahead during the annual meet- i
ing which Is being held in New Orleans this year. The co-op council represents about 5,700 fanners cooperatives and state associationt of co-ops. More than 500 farm and co-op leaders are expected at the annual meeting. Agriculture Department economists estimate that farm cooperatives had a gross business volume of $19.2 billion in purchases and sales during the year ending in mid-1964. In recent growth trends have continued since then, the current gross for the co-ops is more than $20 billion. Naden said a 1 a that annual meeting will also spotlight coming developments in the marketing of farm commodities. He said it is apparent that today's economy demands more skillful marketing and steppedup bargaining strength for farmers.

Keep Your Byes Peeled Pot Dangerous Opponent By Alfred Sheinwold If you suspect that somebody may be getting ready to conk you over the noggin, keep an eye on the fellow with his hands behind his back. West opened the king of clubs and continued with the ace. South ruffed and saw that the hand was a piece of cake if trumps broke normally. The trouble was that one opponent might hold all the missing trumps. There was no need to worry about West. From the lead it was clear that West had started with at least three clubs. From the bidding it was a cinch that West held at least six diamonds. There wasn’t room -in West’s hand for as many as four spades. There was plenty of room in the East hand, so South took the precaution of starting the trumps by leading low from his own hand. West discarded a diamond, and dummy’s" queen forced out the ace. South had kept his eye on the dangerous opponent. CONTINUES CLUBS Bast continued with the queen

of clubs, and South threw away a diamond. He could not afford to ruff in his own hand and then draw trumps. East continued with a fourth club (the best defense), and dummy ruffed. Declarer led the nine of spades from dummy. East covered with the ten, and South won with the jack. Declarer then got to dummy with the ace of hearts to lead the six of spades from dummy. No matter what East did. South was sure to win the next two tricks with the king and seven of trumps. Then declarer could take the rest of the tricks with good hearts and the ace of diamonds. DAILY QUESTION As dealer, you hold: S-None; H-10 7 5; D-K J 8 7 6 2; C-A K 7 3. What do you say? Answer: Bid one diamond. You have 11 points in high cards and 3 points for the void suit, enough for an opening bid. Start with the longer of your two biddable suits.
