Shopping 'Round The Town by DONNA BICKFORD
This is one of the first times in my life that I can look back on last year’s New Year’s Resolutions without a guilty twinge. Of course I only really made one hopeful resolution ... and that was a pretty simple one, just to stay on my diet long enough to loose another 15 pounds and Keep It Off! I was even ahead of the game until we moved to Greencastle last August, discovered Handy’s Milk and Ice Cream company and I tried Handy’s sweet creamery butter! It tastes so good! Now I ev. use it in cooking, and while it may cost a few cents more to season vegetables with real butter . . they taste a thousand times more delicious! Scrambled eggs are great cooked in just a tablespoon or so of butter. I could go on and on! And then there’s our favorite whipping cream . . . and you might remember the mysterious Case of The Midnight Whipping Cream Thief at our house? And Handy’s Sour Cream for Dips, salads, baked potatoes and my favorite recipes! No doubt about it, the delicious, good butter and cream from Handy’s (not to mention the ice cream!) have made it harder to keep that resolution, but I manage to hold my own with an occasional lunch of low calorie cottage cheese and fruit salad! And I don’t regret a bite! I guess Til have to admit that the Double Decker Drive-In hasn’t made dieting any easier, either! The Jacksons have such a tempting menu of good things to eat that my willpower tends to wither. While my parents were visiting here from Oklahoma, we took them out to the Double for a nice meal. Hie atmosphere is so relaxing and comfortable there, and the service Is always good. I felt very grateful to the Jacksons for making euch a nice place for us to take our dinner guests! My folks both love the Kentucky Fried Chicken and naturally picked that They were very pleased with the big selection of vegetables and salads at the Double and agreed with us that It was about the widest range of choices they had ever seen. The evening was a very
pleasant one, and I am only sorry that we don’t have more visitors to take out for a treat at the Double Decker! Curl Up! These cold gray days are just perfect book-reading weather for anyone! I hope your youngsters got a few books for Christmas . . . maybe one of the old favorites like “Tom Sawyer” or a “Bobbsey Twins" book. All the best in children’s books may be found at Books Plus, on East Washington Street. There is a big display of colorful, entertaining (and educational) books for children of all ages from toddlers to high school. Among the more popular modem series for youngsters, Mr. Long has the “Sherry Ames” books about nursing, the “Nancy Drew” series, “Tom Swift” and “The Hardy Boys.” He also has special editions for children of the more mature classics. If your children have Christmas money to spend, guide them into selecting a lifetime book-friend at Books Plus. They’re sure to thank you later! Metzger Lumber Company lias a brand new series of Amerock cabinet and furniture knobs and pulls on display. Called “Valencia,” they comprise one of the loveliest, most perpectly designed set of furniture accessories you’ll ever find! Styled along classic Mediterranean lines, the pulls would be equally stunning and appropriate on contemporary pieces of cabinet work or furniture. I was really taken by them, and you will be too! The new Valencia series Includes beautifully burnished finishes in Antique English, Polished Brass, Galleon Silver, Antique Copper and Golden White. The designs are masterful. If you are Interested in things like this, you just must see them] In case you need custom cabinet work, Metzger Is the place to go for that, too. The fine quality cabinet work they do there, plus a beautiful ;set of Valencia hardware would make an impressive addition to any home!
