in the third quarter until the final 16 seconds of the second overtime period, the game was tied 13 times and the lead changed hands nine times. Junior Bill Shepherd of Carmel is exactly what his press releases say. In directing the Greyhounds to victory, he also managed to rack up 45 points, and his running mate, junior John Ringer had a good night also with 22 points. Andy Denny, 6’3” forward of Seymour, who, as a junior, is already billed as Big Ten material, kept the Owls in the game with 34 points even though in foul trouble the en-
tire last half.
Seymour jumped out in front early, but was caught at nine all, then the Owls forged in front again and increased their lead,to seven points at the first quarter break and it was their longest lead of the evening. The Owls continued to lead until 4:55 of the second quarter when Bill Shepherd connected on five straight points to give Carmel a one point edge. Then the game was even the rest of the way and was tied at half
45 all.
Seymour rushed to a five point edge starting the third quarter, but couldn’t hold the advantage and were caught at 55 all. At the third quarter stop, the game was tied again at 67 all. Carmel racked up 10 straight points before the Owls could score beginning the final stanza, the Owls rallied and tied the contest with only 49 seconds remaining in regulation play at 85 all. Regulation play ended at 87-87. The first overtime ended at 93-93 and Carmel outscored the visitors in the second overtime 10 to 4 for the victory.
day tourney. Greencastle advanced to the final game with a convincing 79-64 win over West Lafayette while Carmel won a thrilling double overtime triumph over the Seymour Owls,
103-97.
Tonight’s final should be a dandy. No clear cut favorite has emerged. The Cubs are now 9-1, and Carmel is 8-2. Both clubs are not big but possess excellent jumpers and each claim one of the finest guards in the state. Mike Troyer entered the tourney with a 32.4 per game average and Carmel’s Bill Shepherd sported a 28.1
average.
In last night’s contests, Troyer tallied 27 (and evidently no ill effect from his recent accident) while Shepherd topped him with 46. So tonight, two of the outstanding shooters in the state will meet, and if there is any edge, it belongs to the Tiger Cubs defense, which carried them to victory over a very fine Red Devil team from West Lafayette. The Tiger Cubs Jumped into an early eight to six edge at the 4:28 point of the first quarter and with Troyer pumping in 10 points and Pete Norris six, extended their spread to 10 at the end of the quarter 24-14. The talented team from the north hadn’t given up yet. In the second quarter, they collected themselves and solved the sticky Cubs’ zone press and sliced the Cubs’ lead to three at halftime, 39-36. After playing errorless ball the first quarter, the Cubs helped their opponents by making seven the
second period.
But the third quarter was all Cubs’. After a foul shot narrowed the gap to only two points, two baskets by Terry Ross and one by Troyer gave the Cubs an eight point bulge

Koufax Signs NBC Contract
LOS ANGELES UPI—Sandy Koufax had a $1 million present today on his 31st birthday to take away some of the sting from his retirement as baseball’s leading pitcher of the modern era because of an arthritic elbow. Less than six weeks after he gave up an estimated $125,000 a year to pitch for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Koufax signed the $1 million contract for a 10year term with National Broadcasting Company. Announcement that the network had signed Koufax was made in New York by Carl Lindemann, Jr., NBC vice president for sports. NBC did not specifically reveal the terms but from sources close to the negotiations it was learned the famed lefthander would receive $100,000 annually for ten years. “Sandy’s contract with NBC will give him the widest latitude — that of performing on the air, developing new talent for us, initiating new programs of his own creation, developing special projects for the company or any of its divisions,” Lindemann said.
