A Local Teenager's View By Janet Staub Christmas time is eating time as many people go off diets to indulge in many foods and other people go on diets consisting of sweet, fattening foods. The calorie count is not the only measure of an adequate diet. All foods contain nourishing ingredients called nutrients, which are necessary to human life. Nutrients can be classified as organic (containing carbon) and inorganic. Water and minerals are inorganic. Organic nutrients are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Human beings need proteins for growth and for the repair of Body tissues. They require minerals for growth and to keep the body functioning properly. Fats and carbohydrates supply energy. Even the Christmas cookies I baked had about 100 calories per two small cookies. A serving of marcaroni and cheese is a whopping 350 calories. As everybody digs into the Christmas turkey just think, a normal serving is 230 calories. Even with all the calories in everybody’s favorite food who cares because Christmas comes but once a year!! BY THE WAY: MERRY CHRISTMAS

Army To Hold Military Rites SAN FRANCISCO UPI — The Army will give Sgt. Richard F. Campos a full military funeral if no next of kin can be found. The Army made it clear Thursday that Sgt. Campos— the only one of more them 6,000 U. S. servicemen killed in Vietnam not claimed by a relative —will be buried with honor. “He was one of ours for eight years,” an officer said simply. He was good enough for us and if relatives don’t appear we will bury him with full military honors, like any other fallen soldier.” Many offers to pay for the funeral and provide grounds for burial have poured in since the Army reported that the body was unclaimed and unmoumed at Oakland Army Terminal. But the Army emphasized that it is only searching for relatives—not for some one to bury Campos. Sgt. Campos, 26, was killed by Viet Cong gunfire while on patrol Dec. 6. His body was shipped home in a grey, metal coffin.

Letter to Santa

Dear Santa Claus: On Monday night, Dec. 20th, you made so very many children happy, with your visit, with toys and candy. And you also gave us parents a very big thrill with the spirits of Christmas. You also made a very old lady of 100 years very happy, to know that Santa Claus would still remember her. And most of all you made, a mother forget the worry of a son in Vietnam, for a little while, to remember to enjoy her children and her family here, and to thank God, for the things we can enjoy here in America. Also, Santa, we want to thank you and your helpers, who ever you are. We look forward to seeing you next year. So Merry Christmas to you and yours. May God Bless and keep you.
