Give A New Mounting Looking for the unusual in gifts this year? Then consider giving your favorite partner a distinctive new mounting for a fine diamond or colored gem. Most likely, if you have been married for some years, her engagement or wedding ring could stand a “new look.” Sometimes this is dictated by fashion, but most often by improved family circumstances which makes a more impressive ring within budgetary reach. The addition of other stones to the original, sentimental choice, can create a ring of striking beauty, yet maintain the romance of the engagement diamond. Family gems also lend themselves to modern mountings that can be worn proudly with today’s fashions. One good reason for having turn-of-the-cen-tury pieces reset is that the prongs and ring shanks are often worn down to the point where gems are in danger of being lost. In most fine jewelry pieces, the value is in the stones, rather than in the mounting. Like a fine painting which may be reframed every few decades, it is the painted canvas which excites comment and evokes a feeling of beauty, not the surrounding framework holding the art. Colored stones and diamonds of varying sizes from antique pieces also lend themselves happily to distinctive brooches and pendants. But whether it is a ring, pendant or pin, do let us design and plan your remounting gift early. This is something that cannot be hurried if you are to be really pleased. Your fine gems will be in good hands in our remounting department, in any event, so do give us ample time to create something very special for you.
