Town And Country Has Annual Christmas Dinner
The country home of the “Dick Brown's” was the meeting place for the Town and Country’s annual Christmas dinner and meeting. As each member arrived she found her name on a very clever name-card. The hostess and her assistants supplied the turkey with all the trimmings and each member brought the rest. Clema Perkins was “blamed” for making the pecan rolls, and Dorothy Lawler and Ellen Purcell were the co-hostess. Christmas was truly the scene in this home because Priscilla Brown made her own tree from pine-cones and had little lights and the tree was simply beautiful. All thru the house were decorations she had made. Dorthy Lawler had the devotions which were in keeping with Christmas. After dinner the meeting was called to order by the president Mildred Harvey who opened the meeting with Barbara Brookshire leading in the song, Joy To The World. Roll call had to be changed due to the fact there were too many little ones. The roll call was my happiest Christmas. Clema Perkins was the installing officer for the new officers. She used as her theme, A Garden, in which each officer was a flower in her garden. The newly installed officers are, President, Betty Burdette; Vice, Pricilla Brown; Secretary, Martha Borroff; Treasurer, Jo Ford and the news reporter is Marge Hopkins. Mildred Harvey also received a flower as the out-going President. Millie thanked all the girls who had helped her the past year and then presented her officers with a gift. The new president then continued the meeting. Marg Hopkins and Deloris Risk were put in charge of buying the gifts for the Club Christmas Family and the games and other toys to be left at the hotel in Roachdale by Dec. 19. Betty named her committees for the coming year and the new club books will be handed out at the next meeting. Bills were presented and were voted to be paid. It was voted to use $25 for the gifts. Gifts were then handed out by the social committee. A lot of fun was had trying to guess
who your secret-sister had been for the last year and were there ever some fooled girls when the names were finally revealed. It was voted to have secret-sisters again next year and the names were drawn for the coming year. We had two guests, Edith Fry and Judy Rogers with Judy becoming a new member. Only four of the girls were not able to attend, they were Periette Myers, Virginia Perkins, Lola Crosby and Ellen Purcell. There wasn’t any snow for the meeting but there was plenty of rain and I’m sure all returned home with the same feeling as I had, it is better to give than to receive. The January meeting will be in the home of Barbara Brookshire’s, weather permitting.

lastle contest, and oratorical contest. Donna stated that she is contracting speakers and schools for the program for the State Convention to be held April 15 at Ball State University. Carolyn Roth listed the workshops — membership, publicity, banquets, costumes, p u b 1 i c ations, state and chapter presidents, vice-presidents, secretaries, and treasurers—and the interest groups that the delegates attended. Carolyn Smith, National Vice-President of Junior Classical League, explained that she was first selected by the State Junior Classical League Executive Board to be an Indiana candidate at the National Convention. She stated that many plans were made for her campaign and campaign speeches. Committee members helped her make posters, banners, badges and black and white checked victory flags. Carolyn told of her excitement during the campaigning at the convention and her elation, when she was elected National Vice-President. She is now making plans for the National Convention to be held at Tucson, Ariz., next August. She is in charge of publicity, working with the National Publicity Chairman, Mr. LaPountain from New Jersey. At the convention she will meet the guests and get them located in their dormitories and preside at some of the meetings. During Christmas vacation she plans to attend a meeting at Louisville, Ky., where National President John Farley of Iowa, other executive board members and Senior Classical League officers, will be present. Plans for the coming convention will be made at this time. The girls felt honored to be invited to speak at the Cloverdale initiation. At the end of the ceremony refreshments were served and a gift presented to them.
