John Carmichael donated land for a cemetery and the old log church to the United Brethren on Nov. 2, 1848. The trustees were John Blacketer, John Shonkwiler and Thomas Carmichael. The land was located in Clinton Township on the Putnam-Parke County line. The Beech Grove class was organized formally in 1860 by Rev. James Smith, with charter members John Blacketer, Matilda Blacketer, Thomas Carmichael, Mary Jane Carmichael, John Carmichael and Matilda Carmichael. The frame church was built in 1877 at a cost of $1,700.00, and was then known as Beech Grove Evangelical United Brethren. The last time it was reactivated was March 10, 1957. Within the year the carbide lamps and coal stoves were removed, the walls were plastered, flooring laid, electric heat and lights installed and carpeting donated. In 1958 the abandoned old Farmer’s Chapel Church was procured through ‘conference’ and the timbers were used to add on a large paneled classroom. Since then two more classrooms, entrance way, porch and storeroom, all new pews and altar furniture have been added. All expansion and improvements have been through donations of members and neighbors and money raised through labor of Men’s Brotherhood and Ladies’ Aid. The Beech Grove E.U.B. is one of threeon the Rockville circuit served by Rev. Luther Page.
