First I would like to list a few dates of interest to 4-H members’ parents. The Jr. Leaders will have a meeting Monday, October 17, 7:30 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. Elections of officers will be held. The 4-H Horse & Pony Club will organize Tuesday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Greencastle Jr. High School Auditorium. Any boy or girl that is interested in the Horse & Pony program and will be at least 10 years old next year, should come and bring your parents. A committee of members and parents have been working to set up the 1967 program. The program looks to be real good. Let’s have a good turn out at the Jr. High School. There will be a 4-H Beef Calf sale at the Fairgrounds on Friday night, October 28, in which 4-H Beef members would possibly
be interested.

Extension Farm Safety Specialists join the Department of Agriculture and the National Fire Protection Association in urging that a clean-up of fire hazards be made now. Gasoline and electricity, two of our most influential friends, are leading causes of farm fires when they are not used safely. Thousands of deaths and more than $190 million in property damage can be attributed to farm fires every year. This doesn’t include fires in urban and suburban areas. At this time of the year, care must be taken in burning of leaves, starting furnaces and heaters, and trash on corn pickers and combines. Check for defective chimneys and flues. Be sure to have a full fire extinguisher on your com picker or combine. These are things that we sup1 posedly do have time to check ’ until a fire has started. Horticultural Up Transplanting Peonies — The peony is Indiana’s State Flower. _ They have been referred to as the backbone of the flower gar- * den because they are so permanent. Peonies are well suited for most gardens because they - are both colorful and very . hardy. Their colors range from yellow to white, to reds and pinks. Because of their strong stems they make good cut flowers. The only fault with peonies to their short blooming period, fro lengthen the season, plant several kinds to bloom at different times. They can be planted with other flowers, shrubs or alone. Plant them where they get at least one-half day (preferable full) sun and In welldrained soil. The best time to dig and divide peonies Is late September and October. They need plenty of room for development, so plant them three feet apart. The uppermost buds (eyes) should not be covered more than 2 inches. PEST OF THE WEEK FALL INVADERS—Boxelder bugs, cockroaches, crickets, elmleaf beetles, spotted cucum ber beetles and other insects seek shelter in homes in late summer and early fall as cooler weather approaches. CONTROL: Make a complete foundation spray barrier around the house using Dieldrin 15 EC 8 Tbs., or Chloradane 45 EC 11 Tabs., per gallon of water. The average home requires 3 to 4 gallons of finished spray. Spray a 3 to 4 inch band of soil alongside the foundation. Spray cracks and crevices in concrete slabs abutting the foundation The insect seeking to invade the home will be controlled as he crosses the barrier of insecti-
cide.

Holhnd To Hold New Elections THE HAGUE UPI — The coalition government of Dr. Joseph M. L. T. Cals fell early today when Cals’ own Catholic People’s party spearheaded a no-confidence vote in his budget
policies.
The revolt toppled the Catholic, Labor and Anti-Revolution-ary party coalition which has ruled the country since April
14, 1965.
Cals will submit his resignation to Queen Juliana and new elections will probably be held within a few weeks. Norbert Schmelzer, leader of the Catholic People’s party faction in the second chamber, filed a no-confidence motion following a marathon session at which Cals and his Socialist finance minister. Dr. Anne Vonedeling, defended the government’s fiscal policies. The motion said the cabinet’s “planned financial economic policy should contain more guarantees for balanced growth and against continuing inflation and unemployment.” It was passed by a 75-62 vote.

Extra High Card Leads To Defeat By Alfred Shienwold “I hate to lose points on a good hand,” South declared after he had gone down at six spades. “You can’t help losing with bad cards, but it seems unnatural to lose with good cards.” Unnatural was not the word for it.

there would be a $98 million budget gap in 1967 and twice as much the following year. This, they said, represented a “trap

Declarer tried the heart finesse at the first trick, losing to the king, and East returned a diamond to dummy’s queen. Declarer tried to get to his hand for the trump finesse by leading out the top clubs and ruffing the third club. West over-ruffed, and the slam was down before South
could get started.
“It was very unlucky,” South pointed out. “I’d be all right if the clubs broke evenly, or if the player with short clubs didn’t have the king of spades.
It isn’t my night.”
It wasn’t South’s night, but the hand was not unlucky. The spade finesse would have worked if South had played the hand properly. South needed very little else to make the slam.
WASTES QUEEN
When East returns a diamond at the second trick South should win with the ace, wasting dummy’s queen. South then leads the queen of spades for a i finesse, continuing for three
rounds until trumps have been drawn. Declarer can then take the top clubs and ruff a club. He gets to dummy with the king of diamonds to ruff another club, and dummy is then good for rest of the tricks. South would make his slam with ease if dummy’s queen of diamonds were the deuce. His bad luck consisted of having more high cards than he need-
ed.
DAILY QUESTION Partner opens with one heart, and the next player passes. You hold: S-5; H-K 10 9 5 3; D-10 9 4; C- QJ 10 6. What do you say? Answer: Bid four hearts. This shows very good trump support (usually five or more cards), with a side singleton or void suit and no more than 9 points in high cards.

Invites Soviet
Leaders To U.S. WASHINGTON UPI—President Johnson has issued a new invitation for Soviet leaders to visit the United States. But, as in the past, he kept it in the
most general terms.
The Chief Executive was telling reporters at his news conference Thursday about his meeting at the White House Monday with Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei A. Gromyko. “I said to him that we would welcome a visit by the leadership of his country to this country,” Johnson said. He added that he told Gromyko the i United States welcomed exchange programs with the Russians and that “we wanted to
know them better.”
Was this to be taken literally as an invitation for Soviet Premier Alexei N. Kosygin and Communist party chief Leonid L Brezhnev to come here? Asked to elaborate, the President said the invitation
nothing new. It had been made before publicly and privately. In his State of the Union message Jan. 4, 1965, Johnson said: "I hope the new Soviet leaders can visit America so they can learn about this country at first hand.” Nothing came of that
overture.
The President told his news conference Thursday he would “welcome an exchange not onl> at an artistic level, or at the government level, but at the very highest levels.”
