Airline Walkout Threat Is Over NEW YORK UPI — Members of the Transport Workers Union (TW T A) voted by margins of 5 to 1 to accept a new contract with American Airlines, ending the threat of a walkout that came within 30 minutes of a strike one week

ago.

Matthew Guinan, TWA international president, announced the results Tuesday. The new contract, arrived at shortly before the strike deadline Sept. 28, “is the best in airline history and our membership knows it,” Guinan said. However, in Washington, the administration denounced the settlement as “clearly inflationary.” Gardner Ackley, chief of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, said the ! settlement amounted to a 6.5 per cent wage increase-double j the recommended administraJ tion wage-price guidelines. The contract includes three ! weeks’ vacation after five years employment and four' weeks after 15 years; Good Friday as an added paid holiday; 50 per cent contribution by the company to the emplo-
