Ford Thunderbird brings a new dimension to the field of personal luxury car transportation with the introduction of its 1967 product line which includes this 4-door Landau model. All Thunderbird models present a markedly changed yet unmistakably Thunderbird look with a thrusting, long hood line, shorter rear-deck and recessed air-scoop type intake grille. The 2 and 4-door Landau models feature vinyl-covered roofs and the traditional S-bar on roof quarter panels. The two Landau models plus the 2-door Hardtop have ventless side windows and headlights located in the grille sides that are covered by matching doors which retract when the light switch is actuated.
Patterns For A Career In The Textile Industry
By ROBERTA ROESCH Ever since I wrote a column on the art of putting designs on cotton fabrics with the use of wax and dye (batik printing), readers have been asking me to write about Job opportunities in fabric styling and design. For answers to the questions I have been asked I contacted the American Textile Manufacturers Institute and learned that today’s opportunities in textile firms are practically unlimited for trained stylists, designers and colorists who do a good job creating new fabrics. World's Largest According to my Informants, the U. S. textile Industry is the largest In the world, producing some 15 billion square yards of cloth per year—enough to wrap the earth 333 times with a yard-wide strip. 1 also learned that, along with man, textiles have moved Into outer space, not only in the flight suits worn by the astronauts, but also In the covering of missile nose cones and the special parachutes that bring the space explorer and his capsule safely back to earth. If you want to prepare yourself for job opportunities in fabric styling and design, you will need, along with training and ability, initiative. Industry, imagination, inspiration, ambition and resourcefulness. You must also know the complex textile market and understand the capabilities and limitations
of textile manufacturing machinery. Trends And Ideas You must also be aware of trends, and you should expect to spend many hours searching for new ideas in museums, art galleries, magazines, foreign publications and libraries. As a fabric stylist or designer, you will undoubtedly work closely with fashion designers. At the same time, you must maintain your own very broad outlook on fashion cycles and innovations. As you work, you will be concerned primarily with such overall fabric characteristics as color, weight and texture. You will also be responsible for longrange fashion planning, for determining basic colors and for styling complete fabric lines. Quite naturally, the first big design in devising the original

sketch or design motif for use on printed, woven or knitted fabrics of wool, cotton, silk, man-made fibers or blends of fibers. Next you will work with colors—mixed, matched or combined. Finally, you will work with the “repeat” drawings from which the printed plates are made. After you gain experience as a stylist or designer, you will find there are good opportunities to move up to top fabric and design jobs. Other Possibilities The opportunities in the textile field are so wide and varied, that if you want to branch out beyond styling and design, you can extend yourself to other jobs in the field, such as fashion coordination, fashion promotion merchandising or manage-

By DAVID NYDICK UPI Education Specialist Schools have a definite responsibility in the area of civil defense. Any failure to take every possible precaution would have to be considered a dereliction of duty. A number of individuals and groups voice objections to practice drills and preparation for disasters. They often indicate that they do not want their children exposed to what they call the frightening effects of a drill. There is also a feeling that there is no protection against a nuclear attack expert prevention
through peace.
Individuals have a right to such attitudes, but a public agency does not. A number of factors must be considered. Civil defense is designed for protection against many types of disaster, only one of which is a nuclear attack. These include fires, floods, hurricanes, torna-
does and earthquakes.
The schools of our nation are

volved. Darkness often creates panic. Many modern schools have extensive glass areas. Shattering glass is particularly harmful, but individuals can be protected from this danger. Obviously, there are many steps which can be taken to protect students and employes from the effects of disaster conditions.

With tht approaching of cool nights — the signs of smoke reaching skyward and the leaves taking on the color of fall, we are reminded of the coming of winter and the very limited time for cement work which is a necessity in the erection of cemetery memorials. Whether you plan to erect a memorial and have that unmarked grave memorialized through the long winter months is a decision for you alone to make. Some cemeteries reserve the right to stop putting in foundations after Oct. 1st or Oct. 15th. Our purpose is to remind you of the limited time left for this work, to invite you to visit our large display and to offer our years of experience in serving you. We have a complete stock from which to choose in all the nationally advertised granites and suggest you make your selection while weather conditions will permit erection.

.. (By CARLO J. SALZANO) WASHINGTON UPI —Over in the Agriculture Department the time does come, its spokesmen say, to speak of many things. Of crop reports and cattle grown, of cabbages and kinks. That’s right. Kinks. Peculiarities in foreign eating habits which can affect the success of U.S. farmers who are exporting their produce. But, in the most recent case of such habits, it appears that a fear attributed to Italian men of eating chicken-for fear their virility will be lost-has not affected U.S. exports. The department’s Foreign Agriculture Service reports that from 1955 to 1965, poultry consumption in Italy was up from 4 to 16.1 pounds per capita. And, the FAS reported, 20 per cent of the poultry imported to Italy in 1964 was from the United States which supplied more than 30 per cent of that import in 1965. The question of virility and chicken consumption was raised by a recent Italian visitor to the department, and was based on a discredited theory that hormones fed to broilers could affect virility. The U.S. poultry industry stopped feeding hormones to broilers about five years ago after hearing some complaints. No connection between the feeding of the hormones and its effect on virility was established.
