Mnncio Favorod For Modk Cantor INDIANAPOLIS UPI — A legislative study committee voted Tuesday to recommend that a second Indiana medical center be established at Muncie. The selection of Muncie over Evansville and South Bold came during a noon-hour executive session of the Legislative Committee to Study Medical Education in Indiana. The decision was announced by Rep. Walter Beneville, DJeffersonville, chairman of the committee. Beneville refused to say how the committee members voted in the secret session. He said, however, that Muncie led on the first of two ballots, with South Bend and Evansville tied for second. On the other ballot, he said, Muncie still prevailed and Evansville was second with South Bend third. The decision haul vast significance. It meant that Ball State University, a state-owned school ranking in size only behind Indiana and Purdwe University among neariy 40 Hoosier institutions of higher learning, may become the site for a second medical school and a center which could in time match the big Indiana University Medical Center at Indianapolis in size and scope.
Airline Strike Deadlock Fxists WASHINGTON UPI — Nego-
Air Force jets on a Vietnamese- tiators, meeting in an atmos-
directed attack in the Mekong Delta killed 15 civilians and
wounded 182 others Tuesday night. When the smoke cleared only three Communist guerrillas were found among the wounded, it was disclosed today. The FI 00 Supersabres bombed and strafed the village of Truong Thanh, 13F miles southwest of Saigon on information from South Vietnamese officials that a 150-man Viet Cong company was hiding there. It was the worst incident of mistaken killing in the war. American and South Korean troops staging a counter-attack in the strategic Central Highlands meanwhile killed 170 North Vietnamese regulars today. The action was part ofOperation Paul Revere II underway about 220 miles north of Saigon. The pre-dawn triumph in jungle mountains near .the Cambodian border brought to 385 the number of Communist troops killed in the 10-day-old sweep. It followed a Communist mortar attack on a South Korean troop contingent, which called in U. S. armored units and other ROK troops. In the air war, American planes followed up Monday’s record 139-mission assault on Communist North Viet Nam with a 129-mission raid Tuesday. The planes hit 144 targets, two of them only seven miles from the vital Communist port of Haiphong. The Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps airmen struck 14 oil depots, destroyed 15 bridges and 30 barges and left 100 fires and explosions ripping Communist supply areas.
phere of futility, went back to the bargaining table Tuesday for still another effort to end the S3-day-old airline strike. Neither side held any hope for success and an industry spokesman said the walkout against five major carriers would be ended only by congressional action. Representatives of the airlines and the International Association of Machinists (IAM) renewed talks for the second consecutive day at the urging of the House Commerce
Committee.
