By Milton 8. Truoler This writer witnessed the final rehearsal last night of The Wizard of Oz,’ famous children’s story set to music and scheduled for presentation by the Putnam County Playhouse this weekend and next in Speech Hell on the DePauw campus. The show is professionally acted and sung by a large cast of young people, and enhanced by colorful and imaginative sets. Director of the production is Jim Poor, with Betty Akers serving as musical director. Marie McKee has done the striking choreography and dance scenes, and sets and technical direction are under the supervision of Larry Sutton. The competent accompanists are Linda Baumunk on organ and Barbara Poor at the piano. The "Wizard of Oz” belongs to the young people of Greencastle and Putnam County, and they carry it off in great style. All leading roles are well portrayed. Mary Rayfield is a ‘natural’ in the role of Dorothy and her singing and acting are extremely well done. Steve Grimes as the Scarecrow is superb, bringing many entertaining moments to the stage. Scott Loring, Jeff Mont, John Liston, Wendy Gifford, and Ginger Richie in the other principal roles play their parts strongly and with much profes-
sional aplomb.
The chorus work is delightful and completely captivating. The large group of ‘Munchkins” and “Oz people” seem thoroughly at home on the stage and add much color to the entire production. (Mention should also be made of the fine speaking parts taken by several of the young children in the “Munchkins.”) Don’t miss “The Wizard of Oz!” It is a thoroughly enjoy-
